A photo album of his service during WW1 to follow, along with other interesting items.

That's the start of his service, he went on to this. Your almost right Rick he was born 1880.

That is the world's OLDEST Reserve/Landwehr Captain! The LD2 was last given out in 1914, so under normal circumstances, if he was a One Year Volunteer 1901-02 to have gotten it by then... he was born about 1882--
he's 56 or so in the photo?
What have you got for paperwork
I was just off to bed Rick, but I'll throw you this tidbit with another to follow.

I'll continue tomorrow. But who is our officer?

The end shot with this group was taken in 1938 and shows in the middle the certain officer thats wearing the bar. Theres a lot in between what you first see and what you end up with.

Some time ago I was able to purchase a group with documents and photo's. This was the bar that I first saw, nothing that interesting most of us would think? But all is not what it seems !!!!

Hi Rick,
The problem is the size. I scan all pages at 75dpi to be sure to put here. I try to scan them at 100dpi and the size is too big for the picture. Sorry
Christophe
Get an EPSON scanner Christophe .... it does wonders for your scanning needs

Hello Gents,
After many years away from the figure painting scene, I have been drawn back by the wish to construct and paint a few WWI 120mm German figures.
Back in the 70's, when I used to do this there were paints available that matched most uniform colours. However, since those times most of the manufacturers of these paints seem to have packed up.
Can anybody advise me of a good basic colour for WWI Field Grey that I can use on a resin cast figure?
Cheers,
Mike

Could be Crimean. It's silk so I don't know when silk ribbon making ended. Was it 30-40s?
Chas,
The St Henry ribbon has the narrow light blue on the outer edges of the band. Here's a comparison view of my St Henry and a Crimea medal that I have.

ribbon!
Chas,
That looks like modern made ribbon for the Victorian "Crimea Medal" to me.

More important is the reverse. The well that accommodates the hinge attachment should be the shape shown in this picture. The reverse of the cross on the top off the crown should be solid and not cut out as in the picture you have shown. Also the rim of the badge does not correspond with known period badges.

Don,
I've replied on WAF to your inquiry. However I'll post pictures here and list the reasons why I do not like the badge you have shown.
Obverse shot of, IMHO a true "Juncker" period badge. Note the quality of the piece. Also that on the badge that you show there is an extra berry on the leaf on the left of the badge level with the background hill. Next point, the crown is under cut behind the top edge of the crown.

Nothing special, but my contribution to this very interesting Lippe thread. A bar with the NC ribbon.

Again thanks for your comments gents.
Ulsterman, the patina on #5 is just superb, nice tight stiching and a lovely finish to the construction of the bar.
Stogie, thought you would like the NC bar, what a journey it's had from the UK, then around the US till it returned here. It's travels have stopped now, as this is where it will remain for a good few years.

No wonder the "Evil One" visits you so often. Wizardry is the secret behind Imperial award research

That explains it precisely. Thanks Rick. I've got years of learning to go yet before I could explain this .... Your a star and a leading light on research.

He's wearing his 4 ribbon bar in "Super Prussian" precedence--
EK2
LD1 (dark blue comes out looking light in old photo processing)
Lippe Cross (the red and yellow blur together as solid dark leaving only the white edges)
Austrian MMC wWD
Thanks Rick, that's not what I expected. I thought the Lippe Cross was the second award on the bar.
How come he would wear a LD long service award before the Lippe Merit Cross? You've now got me even more confused.
Ahhhhhhhhhh precedence is so confusing Please explain further

Rick, can you answer a question for me please. In the photo's I have, Pauls ribbon bar shows 4 awards. Would the long service ribbon be the 1st class of the Landwehr DA with the gold/yellow side stips? Or the normal plain blue ribbon. It's hard to make it out on the photo.
I'm still trying to work this one out Rick. What is your opinion, 1st class or second?

... and since the Rolls exist, at SOME point, SOMEBODY will do them...
so you're well ahead of the curve!
Thanks Rick, let's hope the rolls turn up a name in the near future.

Thank you Nesredep and Sam,
I'm slowly building up a collection of awards that was given by this small Principality. I have a few higher awards in the pipeline that I will show as they arrive.

Glenn,
Yet again thanks for you added information, it certainly builds on the grouping I have. I've taken a few scans from the album that I have, but there are well over 190 photos in this, with comments and locations written on a lot of them.
As you say Glenn, Heinrich Leiste was originally with Infanterie-Regiment von Goeben (2. Rheinisches) Nr. 28. Eppelettes and pin badge in the collection.
