These four bars recently arrived in their new home. A couple of very interesting ones, but all IMO all very nice additions to my collection. For your consideration Gents.

First, a nice Bavarian bar with a Jacob Leser BMVO4x. Obverse

My first guess would be a cap badge for the old Landsturm oilcloth cap. Is it EK size? 42-43mm?

Personally, I like it, but then I've always been considered weird

Tom that's an inspired thought and I think you could be right. With the holes in the back to attach to the cap. However, as you said it would depend on the size to help confirm the idea.

Guards Machine Gun Regiment - GMGR

"Formed in February 1918 having begun life in 1916 as the Guards Machine Gun Battalion or Machine Gun Guards. Regiment disbanded in 1920.

Many thanks for your reply Stuart. In fact the GMGR had quite a short service history then? I'll have to keep a lookout for the book that you mention as it sounds interesting.

Thanks Tony, It's just that I haven't seen any of these Shoulders bars before. The "Motorised Machine Gun" makes sense to me and i suppose the other could be the "Guards Machine Gun Regiment" but when was ther a Regiment of Machine Gunners?

Has anybody else seen these Shoulder bars before?

Well the grouping has all been sold and I wouldn't be suprissed if this wasn't done by Thies' auction house just to get rid of the group and to make some money. Spread to all parts of the world just to try and make a profit

I was wondering if anybody had any information on a couple of Shoulder Insignia that a friend of mine has. He has a pair of Shoulder Insignia that are:-

GMGR all in one?

and another pair

MMG all in one

I presume that these refer to Machine Gun Units. Am I right? If so, what units do they refer to. I haven't come across these before so I'm thinking are they a special unit and are they rare?

Tom, Great thread with some nice bars posted. Please allow me to add my poor old battered bar with 1870-71 clasp. Unfortunatly the clasp on the reverse has long gone.

Dunno diddly about aeroplane stuff, but that looks like a winner.

Tom, with all due respect, if you "Dunno diddly about aeroplane stuff" then why comment on the piece. I would rather wait to see what the true Guru's of Imperial flight badges have to say. IMO, from the pictures I wouldn't like to comment without closer shots of the detail.

No disrespect to you Eric, but PLEASE show more detailed shots.

Well mate, it's been relisted without the box and ribbon, so it's still up there for a quid. At least my message to the seller stopped some poor smuck from buying what he thought was an original cased item. Good on the seller for relisting

He even has the cheek to describe the correct ribband for the combatant and non combatant award .... but then shows it with the Bulgarian ribband and says it's original.

Everyone has seen loads of Prussian railway service badges,here is something less often encountered, 25 year railway service badge for Hessen-Darmstadt. (different crown) Reverse marked Wagner and 800 silver marks.Ferg1

Now in a new home along with it's Prussian equivelant 25yr in it's case and documents for the 25 and 40 year to the same guy. One very happy bunny here thanks to Ferg1.

Excellent find Ferg1 . Been looking for one of these for several years now but with no luck. I've got the cased Prussian 25, and 40 year awards with the presentation documents, but finding that Hessen one has foiled me for the time being. Well done.

Well.... I wouldn't go that far. I saw this group and Don's thread on the Wehrmacht Awards Forum and I felt sorry for the guy, so I'll leave it at that.

Like you Tim, I also feel sorry for the seller that bought this group in good faith and fell for the story that he was told. The age old addage of "Don't believe the story, check the item" comes to mind.

However, I do feel that he should swallow his loss on this group and not try to make a profit out of his misfortune at the expense of others.

Nope, the last bunch in fatigues are all Bavarians-- note the Bavarian "P" guards on their swords.

Nice photo. This officer is a Prussian one and not a Bavarian officer. If he was a Bavarian he shoud wear the Bavarian medal first.

I agree Christophe, plus his belt has the Prussian buckle and not the Bavarian one. But still a very nice framed photo.

To me it would be "Dive Dive Dive" for cover. The group just doesn't make sense to me. The guy served 1870 and was still going about 1920 to have received that badge and no real in between awards. 1870 EKII on bar should surely have the second award bar. For the price it's being offered for, total madness IMO.
