    1. I have just bid on it to see if I can save it, if any one else was going to do it I will of course stand aside.......what a real shame

dante, I hate to disappoint you, but unless this Asshole :violent: will sell you the original medals as well ...... then it's far too late to save this bar  It's gone forever :banger: any replacements that are put back on it are not the original ones. A very sad situation I'm afraid.

    2. And the slightly  more interesting front of the pic !

      Christer

Fantastic group photo you have there Christer. I would agree that there are 2 flight badges, however I think they are both Prussian.

I hate those sort of guys as the one with the pilots badge sitting second left ...... obviously a slow drinker or trying to avoid buying the next round of drinks :banger:

    3. Rick,

The theory you put forward for the thicker lower silver edge on some of these awards is very interesting, I had not noticed this before it was brought up on this thread.

Having checked out my BMVO's I too can see a difference between the earlier awards and the later ones.

To show this, here is the reverse of a, although slightly damaged, early "Lesser" award with all round thin silver edges and a much later "Weiss & Co" piece .

    4. So . . . avoid e$cam???

No Ed. This is your typical thought on the subject for anything German. My thoughts are that you don't avoid eBay or any other selling site. The important thing is, as with all collecting, that you know your subject and history. Research and learn, that's the basis for knowing what's right from wrong.

At times we all have cock-ups, but we learn to avoid them. E-bay has brought to my collection many nice pieces that I know are true, but before bidding I researched and made sure the item was correct.

My first purchases of Imperial German were on E-bay back in 2001, and they were from a well known senior Mederator that's on this forum. Maybe I was lucky with my first buy's, but that someone was a guiding light for my further collecting themes and knowledge.

By belonging to, and being actively involved in forums such as GMIC, you learn from others and in return pass your experiences on to new collectors. That is what is happening in this thread.

Don't knock it Ed but try to get actively involved instead of trying to disrupting it.

      Regards,

      Mike

    5. OK, now I'm wondering (and blessing my scanner's ability to blow things up a bit)... the lettering on the reverse is not capitalized! I don't recall seeing this variation before. Comments?

Oh Stogie .... old age must be setting in faster than you thought :rolleyes:

Remember this little puppy that passed from you to me :speechless::speechless:

Seems to be exactly the same maker as the one you have just shown.

    6. I am not sure if the Redeemer is pre-WW1 or could be--possibly more likely is, from the 1930s, since this grade was for people with status equivalent of a Captain.

Sometimes you just have to settle for

Rick, yet again your right. Like you, I'm also not sure if the Redeemer is pre or post war, hard to tell without any backup documents. However, it's nice to have this one as there can surely be very few of these mounted on Imperial Bars :jumping:

sachaw, I think this bar was on Phillipp's site a few years ago.

Paul, as you said, I've not seen that many of this Baden Kreuz mounted before, so again a reason for me to snag this one.

      Mike
