    1. Hello, apologies for late reply but just seen this thread....I collect 18th/19th century silver as my other hobby and think that you mark is actually French post 1838. It is really hard to see (so I could be wrong), but it looks like it might be the Franch post 1838 'Boars Head' mark, There is a link here (http://www.925-1000....ench_marks.html .....if you have a look at the bottom left picture of the web page, you will see the 'small' silver guarantee mark of the boars head. Your picture shows what might be a very indistinct makers mark (opposite side of the ring)....but I am nearing the realms of guess work here. Not sure how this would tie in with you source. I can't imagine that there will be too many Waterloo medals with French hallmarks!

thanks for that Monkey, all the best, Dan

    2. Guys, i have been sent photos of a Waterloo medal, which has been stamped on the silver ring and on the rim of the medal (above the I in Wellington)

the owner of the medal thinks that they are Dutch import duty marks.......what do you guys think of them?

The medal appears to have been renamed to G PORTEGIES 2ND HUSSARS KGL was this man on the Waterloo medal roll?, is it an original medal or a later silver copy with the marks on ring and rim simply marking it as silver?

I look forward to hearing you opinions!

      cheers dan

    3. Hi chaps

Recently recieved this. It came from the house of a distant relative of my Wife, whose family were involed in the uprising and lived in Rathfarnham / Rathmines Road in the early part of this century. Its a lovely little pin in silver. No makers mark or hall mark.

The Aero Association was a fore-runner of the Irish Air Corps, and they were called upon to aid and arrange for the possible rescue of Michael Collins from the Anglo-Irish Treaty talks of 1921, thus forming the embryonic Irish Air Corps. A Martinsyde Type A Mark II biplane was purchased and put on 24-hour standby at Croydon airport in order to allow him to escape back to Ireland if the talks failed. In 1922 there were just 400 member of the IAC.

This is all the information I have at the moment. Can anyone help?

      Cheers

      Dan

    4. Now that IS interesting! Sundays make sense, but I wonder why Thursdays? (paydays??) 35% increase - wow! Substantial!

If only i was sellinf something other than British WWII Campaighn stars I might be rich!

      Dan

    5. I have noticed over recent years that items ending on either a Sunday evening or Thursday evening always seen to do better than those ending on other days of the week.

I took this to be due to people having more free time to have a play about on ebay on these days. Since noticing this trend I began to solely list my items between 7.30pm and 9pm on a Sunday, ending at the same time the following week, and have realised an increase of up to 35% in the prices my things have achieved.

    6. Afternoon Chaps

A friend of mine is looking to move on his NSKK cap eagle. He isnt into militaria and has a baby on the way so is looking to sell it to raise some funds. Now this is outside of my knowledge area and I cant really advise him on its value, but really want to ensure that he gets a fair price.

It is in minty condition, with its original RZM label on the rear.

Am i right in thinking that this version (bullion) would be the NCO issue?

      What do you guys think?

      Thanks

      Dan

    7. ps. Do you collect old ammo. ? I have a jar of .577/.45 slugs picked up years ago on the battlefield of Isandlawana. If you have a good collection I might send you one ...........

      Hi Mervyn

Just going through some of my old posts (up at 4.30 am with the baby!) and noticed this one had slipped through the net

I do have a small collection of ammo, mostly items that have been given to me or picked up in odd little shops...

If the offer still stands for a slug I would be more than grateful!

      All the best

      Dan
