    1. Hi Chaps

I picked up these little beauties on an old range near my home in Yorkshire along with several Snyder-Enfield and Martini Henry rounds. Any ideas what they are exactly. They are slightly larger than .22, but not quite .25. Lead with a copper jacket (degraded away).

      Thanks

    2. Is it one ? Firstly, it is for a Belgian town - Ypres. I would have said that it was perhaps a town badge - later converted and given as a keepsake - however, it doesn't follow the usual pattern of showing a miltary background badge. Did you mount it on the green baize and wood background ? What do you think - and in no way do my comments detract from what is an attractive piece. Mervyn

      Hi Mervyn

      Thanks for the congrats!

The badge is a funny one. A "Sweetheart" brooch is a momento given to a loved one to keep you in their mind when you are off to the fray. And yes, this would usually be a regimental token. However, a badge such as this, sent back from the front line for a wife or girlfriend would certainly qualify. Wouldnt you say?

I suppose it depend on the badges provenance. 2 identical badges bought from the same shop, in the same town. 1 worn as a tourist piece by the chap that purchased it - not a Sweetheart badge. One sent home and worn by a loved one....

When i bought this the lady at the carboot had said her Uncle/Great Uncle brought it back from Belgium for her aunt. This would make it a Sweethear brooch to my mind.

      Definately one for further thought!

It is amazing! I had never seen mongolian awards before but they are very beautiful

How long have you been collecting?

      Many thanks for sharing

    4. Morning chaps

A little story first, then some photos

Back in 1989, my uncle purchased a derelict cottage and buildings in Kircolm, near Stranraer Dunfries and Galloway in Scotland. My my dad, another uncle and myself promply journeyed up to Scotland to get started with turning this somewhat decrepit building in to an at least liveable house for my Uncle to live in while he was renovating it.

In an uptairs bedroom was an old chest of draws filled with unspeakable rubbish, in the middle of which was a huge rats nest :speechless1: Nice, eh?

Amongst the rubbish was this cap. It was filthy, chewed on by rats and stinking!

My uncle kept this cap until last week - where upon he gave it to me :jumping::jumping:

Now - i really dont know if this is original or not. I have never held a german cap before, let alone an SS one.

So take a look at the photos below and let me know your thoughts.

      Thanks

      Dan
