That is a beautiful medal, well done
Is that the original ribbon or modern replacement?
Thanks

The question is who would bid on it??
I am fairly new to TR and have to ask a lot of questions and tend o get my thoughts on items backed up by more experienced collectors, but anyone bidding on an abhoration like that has more money than sense!

Well done Jan Arne, what an amazing bargain!

Bottom right, reminiscent of the Force 135 insgnia, but with black & white lions nstead of yellow. Is this one actually miltary?
This one is very reminiscent of the Hamburg coat of arms. Could it be German?

No. 3 ribbon bar with;
- The Cape of Good Hope General Service Medal, 1880-1897 (Only 5252 of these medals were awarded)
- The Queen's South Africa Medal 1899-1902
- The King's South Africa Medal 1901-1902
One of my favorite!
Some great bars Noor!
The cape of good Hope bar is a beauty!

I think that the knotted one is the North Staffs Regiment, rather than a divisional or brigade badge. I have something similar knocking around here somewhere...
Dan
Here we are -
Badge of the Territorial 5/6 Bn Staffordshire Regiment.
phew!
I have always been interested in where the Staffs knot came from. Does anyone know?

Infuriating, I should know what the Staffs knot is but can't remember, I can't remember if it's specfic to a unit such as Staffs Yeomanry or North / South Staffs Regiments, or a brigade formed of Staffs infantry.

The bottom right badge i am inclined to agree with Leigh...Im not so sure that it is military....

I put a thread on Dorset Regt badges together a couple of years ago, I'll dig it out & post it on a seperate thread on the regiment, if somebody wants to start the thread off in the meantime, I'll catch up on it.
I would, but i have nothing to the Dorsets!

Hey
would it be possible to lightly trace it onto paper, go over the tracing in pen and then photograph the paper.....?

Great stuff as always!

Great post Leigh, thanks.
There was an excellent article in Medal News about the evolution of the dorsets badges. It was probably about 4 years ago, and i cant lay my hands on the copy just now

Dan,
The medals all look fine to me.
Is that Iron Crossmagnetic and made in 3-parts? The 4 Year service medal and eagle magnetic?
Matt
Hi Matt
Yup they are magnetic and the ek is of 3 part construction.
This is actually my first EK Could anyone recommend a good reference book on them?
Thanks

Hi
Thanks for all the replys.
I think its fair to say that the group has been out together at some time.
From the looks of it all the medals are genuine (fingers crossed).
Can anyone give an opinion on them?
Thanks, Dan

PAUL

Hi.
Yes the Russian Front medal should be in 3rd place...also a 4 Year Wehrmacht Long Service medal would be more appropriate on this bar, and i do see a hole in the blue ribbon where the eagle may have been.
Kind regards
Matt
Hi Matt
The group did come with a 4 year award also, but the previous owner was unsure if they were all to the same recipient.
Here it is
Thanks

Morning chaps
A collecting friend of mine picked this up recently and asked my thoughts.
It is obviously some sort of police medal, but that is as far as my limited knowledge can get me.
it is of 3 piece construction and is not maker marked.
My feelings arent good for it, but does anyone have an idea of what it is supposed to be?
Thanks
Dan

Howdy, Gents.
I'm more of an old photograph collector, but i've always admired the Mothers Cross, just something about the blue and white enamal combination, especially on the silver version. I finally think i'm going to take the plundge and get one, but i'd like to know the price spread on them currently. They seem to be fairly available in a 3 classes, and i obviously don't want to pay too much, especially for a damaged version.
The search function isn't working for me, so i'm either failing the 10% Rule, or i'm restricted. I bring it up as i'd lke to get a gander at some fake MCs, but the section that i found the link to is restricted to me.
Thanks much, in advance.
Hi
i have recently sold one of each of the 3 classes of mothers cross in the UK.
I asked and recieved £35 for the bronze, £45 for silver and £60 for Gold.
All the enamels were excellent and they really were lovely examples.
I actually know a chap who has a few examples that he is looking to sell on. I can pass on his details if you are interested? Send me a PM if you would like me to.

Hi Brian, great question.
Chris is exactly right, S on a medal to Scottish regiments denotes war time enlistment.
Below are the other S prefixes -
S - Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve Sussex Division
S - Army Service Corps Supply Branch
S - Scottish Regiments Wartime Enlistment
S - Army Service Corps Supply Branch
S - Royal Army Medical Corps
S - Royal Artillery
S - Highland Regiments Wartime Enlistment
S - Home Counties Regiments 3rd Battalion
S - Rifle Brigade
S - Royal Munster Fusiliers
S - Army Ordnance Corps
S - Dorset Regiment
Cheers, Dan
