I wonder if "1" means anything more than that he was first to receive his dog-tag. Does it have anything to do with rank / seniority?

I would like to describe an EK citation for a Gefreiten of Niederschlesisches Fußartillerie-Regiment Nr. 5. He belonged to 3 kompagnie (so I guess, to the II bataillon). However, I am a bit confused when it comes to assigning the unit to right division / corps.

The document itself was signed by Major of this regiment, but what I can see on the document is also a "d. Kommandierende General d. XVII Reservekorps" (printed). I checked with Ruhmeshalle (page 479 in my edition) and it seems that the II bataillon was assigned to 26 Infanterie Division. But what about other bataillons of this regiment?

Second - I also checked with Histories of 251 divisions... and it seems that the FussArtRgt5 was attached to 26 Infanterie Division in 1918. My document was signed in 22 August 1917 (but for battle/other event that took place 2 June 1917), so I would like to know what happened before 1918.

Would you please clarify the above?

Why is he waring EK II and EK I at the same time? Was it correct?

Thank you so much for your answers. As to the 167 strap, it is feldgrau I'd say, however it is somehow brighter than I expected.

And this "O" strap, the backing material is blue.

So, as said before, I did some research.

The first shoulderboard with "O" is Grenadier-Regiment „Königin Olga“ (1. Württembergisches) Nr. 119.

The second one with "167" is 1. Ober-Elsässische Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 167

The third and fourth, both with "WR", are Infanterie-Regiment „Kaiser Wilhelm, König von Preußen“ (2. Württembergisches) Nr. 120.

The fifth with "W I" is Infanterie-Regiment König Wilhelm I. (6. württ.) No. 124.

The sixth with "W I" is Infanterie-Regiment König Wilhelm I. (6. württ.) No. 124.

Questions:

Are there only Mannschaften shoulderboards presented above? What is the model number of the shoulderboards?

Last one - why IR 124 had two different shoulderboards (i.e. one red, one black) ?

Dear All,

I just wanted to show you what came to me last Friday. I will do my own research on the units that should be assigned to below shoulderboards, but any comments are appreciated. The red one with W is just to compare with black one, as I guess they are the same irrespective of different colours.

I have new a EKII 1914 award citation (together with his Militarpass and Soldbuch) for reservisten Valentin Bieniek.

.... and the Verdun.

RIR 82 20 January 1915 - 1 January 1917:

8 - 14 January 1915 - Schlacht bei Soissons, then Quennevieres-Ferme.

1916 - Champagne, Verdun, Kampfe um den Toten Mann, Hoehe 304, and Somme until 1917.

This is how I see it.
