    1. Hi Steve,

Likewise. I met several faces at the Chantilly Show, that now I can associate with names. As mostly happens... the BSing with 'comaraden' was the better part of the show.

I have tried to carefully read the discussion here, and follow the theme, as it curves around.

I like your badge. As we discussed at the show, I have yet to see a good aluminum reproduction of a Pilot Series Badge. The strike of your badge is solid. The finish looks convincing. The makermark matches my IMME P/O to a tee. And the hardware........... well .......... yes, the tubular diameter on the hinge looks larger than we are used to seeing on other (Juncker & Assmann) early Aluminum (and Buntmetal) badges. But so what! Either they used what was on the shelf, or maybe they even figured that with a larger radius hinge, there was more surface area to solder to. Who knows? But anyone who would condemn the rest of the positive attributes, merely because of the uncharacteristsic hinge, is, as you put it, not a 'skilled collector'.

I'll buy it if you ever sell!

      Regards,

      Mark

Bringing this back to the top for mmiller.......Here's the badge we discussed, let me know your thoughts.

It's always good meeting a fellow LW collector. Cheers, Steve

    2. Yep  It's only really PB's though,I don't have much of a desire to collect the other flight badges apart from fighter clasps maybe..oh and I wouldn't mind an Ehrenpokal

Hah! And we all lived happily ever after! C'mon Dave..... This is us you are talking to. Not your wife. No need to make comments you will regret having made! So just lust after the two new mistresses........... er, uh..... badges in your life. Very pristene>

    3. Hi Dan,

The image I posted was more of a 'frontal brest' shot. This was originally a Waffenrock. The cuffs have been removed, and the rear tailered and hemmed. When I get home tonight, I can post images that reveal those 'mods'. I love the tunic! Obviously, an RK/DK Regiment Kommander liked his tailered 'Rock', and wore it with pride! The shoulderboards are for a Major. Since he is listed in the '44-45' as a Leutnant Oberst, he may have retired this tunic as a Major, and wore a new tunic with the appropriate insignia.

I just hope to find more info about this Officer, his awards, and his Service History.

      Thanks for the interest!

    4. :) Hi Scott,

I can certainly appreciate the 'badge in wear' question. I think we would be short pressed to ever find a photo of this egged P/O in wear. If one turns up..... I WANT TO BUY IT! To quote Steve, "In my years of collecting, I have never seen this 'style' of Assmann (wreath and bird combination). Add in the early mark....makes it even more unique! (perhaps...singularly unique...in my book)." (Bold Italics emphasis added by me.)

Not that I am trying to evaluate the rarity of this badge, but it may have been a 'one off' prototype. Maybe more are in collections, who knows? But it is as mid-30s as they come.

      Regards,

      Mark

PS - Hope I didn't come-off as too defensive!
