Yep - cant comment on what exactly they are for (perhaps platoon leaders - 'den' masters??) as they simply state Hungarian Peoples Republic Little Drummer (blue) and HUPR Pioneer (red)

So #4 is a Munkasor officer type?

More than likely, but its impossible to say for certain. With the Order of Merit to the Socialist Nation at the front he was a high party member - one of the elite. Though I would have also expected to see the Jubilee Medal in there as well. The bar is not 'full' and still has some room for one more medal. Perhaps it fell off and was never replaced. Finding photos of medal bars in wear is a hard subject as they do exist and they were worn, only for really big events (or private affairs far from the propoganda cameras. I have seen one photo at a party function where Rakosi is wearing his medals - a man who was follwoed constantly by the propoganda machines and a man who liked to have his photo taken with important 'other' people...even if they wernt really in the room with him.) Anyhow - the ribbon bar was just the prefered method for about everything.

Unfortunatly all three of these are un-numbered awards from the 1960's. As others had pointed out - these may have been members of the small contingent of Hungarian WW1 POW's who joined forces with the Red Army during the civil war - or they may have been part of the Red Army as the 1000+ Red Army trained partisans. What is interesting as a note is that for the Military Merit Medal - the requirement is a first name of Josef....(a common Hungarian name)

I asked Gordon the same question the other day - between us I am the only one who has seen one - it was for the third class as I recal, from 1958 (as the cobwebs in my mind remember) but it had been folded a thousand times too many and has tape holding it together and more money than I wanted to spend. The citation read to a normal individual (nothing specail except the title 'comrade')

Bar 3 - one of my most favorite of all - pictures will tell the reason why...

Bar 2 - This looks like a typical bar for an Lt. Col who served the HUPR

Bar 1 - dont know about this one - looks like it could be a bottom bar for a general who had a much more impressive 'upper bar', a person with the most lack-lustre career, or a previous collector who found a way of storing his collection of service medals (I bought this just as it is)

This is the page that lists the award - there is just a ghost of a stamp listing the Military Merit Medal, but it is there. You can just see a smudge on the first line in this scan...

Got another one today - just another Military Merit Medal. But what is nice about this one is that it also comes with the Hungarian award book. This is also a Ukaz for veterans of the Russian Revolution on the 50th Anniversary.

This a typical case from the 80s with the painted exterior which melts and stick to everything. Especialy the cases of other medals!

Yep - its either a way of mounting your cased medals to the wall without the need of glue or a nail OR its bad chemestry... Nice sets - thanks for sharing the two tyeps!

Looked at this tunic today and what caught my eye was the RVN service medal and another ribbon that I am not familiar with. Then I noticed the para badge on the shoulder. My guess is Australian? The buttons have what looks like a horse surmounted on a lightning flash with a crown at the top? As far as I can see everything is original and untouched to the tunic - so the RVN ribbon is of interest to me - but I would like to know what I am getting beofre I get it - any help is greatly apreaciated. Sorry for my ignorance in this area. Udv!

yes there was - but I think that the photos I took were too blury - so I delted them. As I recall it came in a "standard" (aprox 140mm x 85mm x 25mm) size case with just the award and the ribbon bar.
