    1. Today i got a medal bar from a collector friend who purchased it from the family of the winner. Unfortunately no one knew who was the winner. I would appreciate any information concerning following questions:

      - Is there a chance to find out the winners' name, I think, it must have been a Navy officer or NCO from one of the eight ships which have been involved in the Venezuela battle in 1902/03

      - How many of the Schwarzburg-Sondershausen 3rd class crosses w swords were awarded

      - What has happened in Deutsch-Neuguinea ion 1913/14 that caused to the award of this bar?

      Thanks!!

    2. fabulous medal bar,

      is it yours???

Wonder how much this would weigh.

Perhaps was it his royal connection which helped him to obtain so much gongs to go with...

As he was almost always in the neighbourhood when his royals exchanged medals, he might have caught his own bit of the ODM-rain

Thank God its mine!! If I saw it an it was not I would get crazy!!! :jumping:

It is so heavy that it needs 2 pins on back.

    3. And did you notice the precedence he mounted his non-Bavarian awards? With the exception of the EK, of course, they are in ALPHABETICAL order of the states!! :speechless:

The last medal is the Spanish medal for MARRUECOS with the bar MELILLA. According to my information there was only one Bavarian officer who owned this medal, it was Oberleutnant Frauenholz, who was in Marokko together with M?ller, but this was unofficial, he had asked for some weeks off, this was granted and he was permitted to wear his Bavarian uniform.

    4. Well, that's how the youth is ...

I've got numbers for all modells, but not for the last one. Volle gives as well just the "120 manufactured". I think most of them were actually awarded, let's guess about 100 ...

Following numbers out of the book of F. Beyrei?:

      1st type Friedrich I. (1868 - 1881): 4 golden, 46 silver medals

      2nd type 1882 - 1908: 4 golden, 128 silver medals

      Friedrich 2nd 1908 - 1918: 68 silver medals.

    5. While this information is correct for WW1 awards, prior to that, going back to the first awards, ca. 1800, there were several changes. For our purposes, I would only point out that the medals awarded for 1870/1, China and Southwest Africa had a smaller bust of Max Josef and no ?J. Ries?. Also, as we go back in time the style of the ?se seems to have gone through numerous legitimate changes.

I hope that this information is helpful.

      Best wishes,

      Wild Card

The medal type w J.RIES was first made by the end of the year 1870. In the war 1870/71 133 golden and 612 silver medals were awarded from this type, which was then also the the type which was awarded in WW1 (1198 golden and 2932 silver medals). Because ot this fact I doubt that for China and Southwest Africa the early type was awarded as I am sure that there were no more old style medals in stock.
