I've had it for about 6 years and refer to it often. It is quite valuable to me.
Got mine about 15 years ago by my old friend William Eugen. Good to own it!

Meanwhile I was happy to get the rest of the documents from another collector. I also found out that the IC document was signed by Oberst BETHE who was the comander of the police troups in SW-Africa, he was also there in 1915 when the German troops surrendered. The policemen were interned in SW-Africa together with the German soldiers. Bethe was released!
Following now the pics of the document group:

MVO 4 is silver
MVO 3 is gilded silver, separate flames
Swords may be added to each
(Bavarian Military Merit Order)
No, MVO 3 is GOLD! Only crosses awarded between 1917 until the end of WW1 were silver gilt. And not ONE MVO 3rd class WITHOUT swords was made in silver gilt.

Was Herr authorised to award this at all? I did not think an AOK could award a DKiG at all... and the wording is that he himself is awarding it and not that the doc is being issued to confirm that the OKW had already made the award.
Herr was not authorised.

I've seen cases like this, but just three in more than thirty years. The "Germany" thing isn't a problem as this jeweller was probably internationally-minded. I don't think there's a problem with this case. In fact, it's gorgeous. Find a nice EK2 for it.

You will never find "Deutschland" on any items. It had to be "Germany", and so it is still today. It means "Made in ...".

I know this post may not go here but this forum has the most responsive members. I would like to get the death notice for General Werner Kienitz. He died in Hamburg 31 December 1959. I would like to write to a newspaper in Hamburg. Can anyone tell the name of the newspaper in Hamburg Germany that may have had his death notice? I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

We could once make a statistic while on a auction, but just very few items were won from people who bid by mail, maybe less than 20%. Most of the winners were at the auction or on the phone!
Ciao,
Claudio
That's true, whenever i tendered by mail I was not the high bidder in most cases. On the other hand I sometimes paid prices which were much too high when I was at the auction in person. By the way, congratulaions for the miniature chain!!!

Results are online. The prices are crazy.
Christophe
Right, absolutely crazy, I won nothing although my bids were much higher than the prices I would have paid one year ago. Where does all this end?

Hi,
I think the policemen were released in 1915 already to continue doing their work?
Am away from my books, so cannot confirm.
As far as I know the were interned in South-West-Africa together w the remaining soldiers and a lot of German civilians. But I have asked a specialist for the German African police and will hopefully know more soon, I will keep you informed.

Just talked to Mr. Thies, results will be in the net today in the evening (MEZ).

Judging from previous experiences with Thies, it can take weeks before the auction result is available on their website. Especially now with all the Christmas holidays...

I guess we'll have it on Wednesday or Thursday.

Medal bar from Oberstleutnant Ernst von R?cker, the only Bavarian officer who got the Z?hringer Lion Knights cross 1st class with oakleaves and swords, 1 of 139 officers in total.

A real beauty, most likely 1900 era, in gold 1st class. The swords I'm not sure of. A very nice find
Good Luck.
If it is real gold price is OK.

It is a Knight 1st Class, not 2nd Class.
Right, doubtless 100% 1st class.
Worth about US$ 600 - 700, a 2nd class about US$ 250 - 300. 1st class was awarded about 525 times in WW1, 2nd class 6367 awards.

OK, Thanks Militaria ! We're off to a great start. You fellows on the forum never cease to amaze me! Does anyone have listing of this Officers Awards?? I could only HOPE!! Thanks so much, Fliegeraldo.
I guess he had no chance to win any other awards except the medals on his tunic, finished oberver training in June 1918, killed in action in October 1918.

May it was this officer:
Walter, Ludwig born 20.12.1894 in Engelstadt, DIA 02.10.1918 Ballay Leutnant d. R. Beobachter Flieger Abteilung A 225.

The bravery medal is doubtless a 100% copy. The medal bar is ok.
