Here the extremely rare Colonial pattern 1st class (2nd type). Body marked G.H. 900 (900/1000 silver, Gebrüder Hemmerle), swords marked GH. Front center medaillon real gold, cypher L real gold.

Wow, is it a home-made repair or had the makers a deal to provide devices like swords to each other?
No home made repair, here is the backside:

After I got better pics of the BMVO I am sorry I have to tell you it is a 100% gilded 4th class and so it cannot be the order which has to be on the medal bar. This fact alone makes the whole medal bar most doubtful.

Are there records from Weiss stating that they never made a third class, or is this just conjecture based on existing examples?
Fact is that Hemmerle made100 pieces, Leser made 200, Weiß zero. 246 were awarded, remaining items stayed in stock.
Weiss produced 4th classes only.
3rd classes last type are NEVER just gilded 4th classes, construction was completely different which makes it easy to detect faked items.

It is no problem to find out whether the BMVO is an original or fake. All I need is a high resoultion pic and I can tell for sure what it is. Paul got my email address, I will let all of you know the result here in this forum then.

I haven't seen many of these West Wall ribbon devices about!
These West Wall devices were not allowed to wear and against the regulations.

This badge was given by Bavarian crown prince Rupprecht for shooting merits in the 20ies and 30ies, unofficial badge, not seen very often.

Maybe this would be dumb but...is it an Octopus on the lifesaving medal?
Yes it is.

I have had a handfull originals over the years, yours is a fake, sorry. All awarded items have a much better quality plus they are made of pickled iron, no exception.

IMO this cross is not an original 1st class, most probably a former 2nd class which was upgraded.

Mr. 08/15, I know Tolkien better then you (plural?).
Relax; it was my failed attempt at humor.
Your previous comment reminded me of a rhyme out of Lord of the Rings, "Herr der Marschallstäbe".
I tend to forget how serious some of us are. Please accept my apology if I offended you.
Accepted. Who the hell reads books like that? :jumping: :jumping:

Three for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne,
In the land of Mordor where the shadows lie.
One to rule them all ...
Please Mr fairy tail man let us know what you think to know better. :speechless1: :speechless1:

If you have better infos please share them w us. I myself have seen several items and all were sold as collectors copies.

So someone made a copy of Model's staff!? I guess what's more interesting is HH actually describing it as such!
Not of Models staff but of some Field Marshalls batons (Rommel, Model, Göring, Dönitz and some others), one could see them at the MAX and SOS and also Weitze offerd one, over some years. They were all made not to cheat somebody but as high quality copies for collectors who want to have items which are not available as genuine awarded items. I heard five of each were made but I do not have a proof for this information.

The realistic price for BMVKs with crown and swords is about 200 - 250, but beware of fakes. There are a lot of former 3rd classes on the market which were upgraded.

Now as I understand it, this bar was not offered to Paul as belonging to GFM Model. Sure, a good forger could probably replicate
this bar rather easily, after all, there is nothing really exotic on it; but then, and this is important, why go through that effort without
attaching the “provenance”, which would increase it’s value by multiples?
That's the point!

Paul, a great find, congratulations! Also a hard to find neck order.

Bavarian lions do not have the double tail, it is Hessian proveniance, whatever it was.

What makes you think that is Hitler?
His face.
