Here's a little sweetie I found today. I have no idea whether or not it's contemporay, but I like it.

Well, almost the same. The left tip of the wreath on mine isn't pointing upwards, which would be a typical characteristic for this decoration. Other than that it's difficult to tell them apart.
TWO!? Take a closer look Rick, all four are actually shorter, hence my reference to Finnland

Hmmm. I would say these are EXACTLY the same,So that leaves us with ONLY the "stubby TDK" to watch for. Anybody else got another with two arms of the swastika shorter?

This is a beat-up bar, but I needed the Customs device. The first two decorations have remnants of the ribbon still attached under the backing cloth. I've made the obverse image slightly lighter for better viewing.

I just recieved a ribbon bar from my friend Christian L and while studying it, I noticed an unfamiliar design on the Treue Dienst device attached to it. There is no question about the originality, but if mirrored, it looks like a Finnish insignia

Thanks for some very helpful information. I have one "stupid" question on this topic though. Both the 2nd and 3rd class are "medals" by definition, whilst the 1st class normally would be labelled "Kreuz" or "Ehrenzeichen" in German, considering its shape. Are there any other German decorations with similar unorthodox designation?

Here's an early piece my friend picked up a while back. The details are stunning, especially the breast feathers

Hi Christer,
Very nice collection, not something you pick up in a day
Given the limited numbers of awardees and their position in society, finding a gold medal would be the Holy Grail for a Finnland collector. The silver version is obtainable, albeit it's rarity. I'll not disclose their numbers, Rick might eat me for beakfast
It's a good thing to point out the differencies between the different classes. As you mention, the size and the reverse design are two ways to differentiate the standard medal from the larger black. The rings also differ in design and doesn't become a problem when comparing these two versions. However, the silver and bronze versions shows the same obverse ring shape as the smaller black, but the small black has the reverse ring flat. The larger black medal has an almost "complete" ring. So pay attention when a bronze version surface on some auction site, it might very well be an upgraded black version.

I wonder whether this medal was given to the observers at the election. As with elections today I imagine that international representatives were sent/invited to check that it had been performed correctly.

Don
Hi Don,
Those are my thoughts as well. I'm just curious as to who actually had them made. The medal itself is designed by Huguenin, but the wording on the reverse is in German. Huguenin was located in Switzerland, but I believe they had a branch in Paris as well. Both France and Germany were a part of this "conflict", hence an involvement in this medal seems odd. One interesting aspect is the way the countries names are spelled i.e. in their respective native languages. Perhaps this medal was awarded by the League of Nations?

Wow, that's a nice looking badge, thanks for sharing
I've inquirered about this little medal before, trying to find out who actually came up with it, but no suggestions were brought forward.

I didn't pay too much attention to this badge until I realized it had a typical Souval post-war set-up i.e. cut-out folded catch. It's a struck piece, 59.85mmx46.80mm and extremely thin, only 1.63mm at the edges and 2.88mm in the center! It would be great to learn about the identity, but even more the date of institution.

Swedish achievement badge for swimming There are several different types, depending on distance completed and they have aqua-related names like the frog (for beginners) and fish, which I believe this might be.

I assume this badge is related to some fire fighter unit, any ideas?

Kind words buddy, but on this particular occasion I believe I was wrong. Your correct about the uncertainty of actual producers, at least we can use the alleged designs to differentiate the various designs when we discuss them. Concur, interesting thread

Peter, it's a tough slice to chew, but I stand corrected The similarities between the Deumer and this 2nd type Juncker are stunning, but yes, there are minor differencies. I'm waiting for Pascal's book with great anticipation and instead of penetrating these details, I'll give the honours to Pascal with his book
