It was pretty much by accident, but I did find it while still in the store so it the desk cost a little more but well worth it.I also found some photo's but they were in terrible shape

the jar was in the middle section here and this beautiful roll top (maker on the desk is dated 1810) was used as a work bench, You just never know what you'll find hidden in the nooks and cranny's

you can say that again, this is the desk it was in, both the badge and the packet was in a jar full of nails and screws :speechless1:I bought the desk too,

I might be mistaken but I was told awhile back that when you see a 57er medal bar with the ribbon crossed over the top it means it was an EK1 and the regular straight ribbon would be the EK2, makes sense to me but I dont know how accurate that is??????

The back is great, and the author was quite the artist!! it looks way better in person.

Hey guys, since I'm rumaging around and packing my collection up I decided to to take a few pics, I;m sure Chris will like the front of this postcard, but the back is even better than the front!!!
It's interesting ( at least to me!!!) that when you look at the dates on the EK series you see the 1813/14 and 1870/71 but on the bottom all you get is 1914 I'm sure there was more than a few soldiers hoping this would be a 1914/15 EK

Here's my feeble attempt at a close up, like the other pics I posted don't mind the date, I just changed batteries in the camera

I 've posted this bar ages ago on a different forum, but figured I'd bring this bad boy back out, I really like the cypher and it's very well made, it has a tiny EK1 type pin system . I know it's nothing spectacular but it's one of my favorites.

Well I really hate to get off topic here but it had nothing to to do with taking a wrong turn... I'll just say that war is hell when your looking for cell phone reception

Eric, what did Sgt Stone have to say?0 -
C`mon guys, she did not create the hype. She was more or less a victim of it. To revoke it would mean wrong doing on her part. She may not be sgt. Rock but I am sure there are many medals out there that were awarded because of hype.
Remember way back when? The 3-4 GIs that were captured in the Balkans? They made a wrong turn, were captured..... and got medals? Not their fault either...
OH Boy!!!Don't bring that one up Chris!! I was fairly good friends with Sgt. Stone and I know the REAL deal on that story .

Ed,
you see that in para 3. it says Your not entitled to the GWOTEM as a staging unit in Kuwait ....but if your there longer than the 2 week in processing your considered permanent party...which entitles you the GWOTEM

Absolutely, Eric, my understanding is that it is:
1- Expedtiionary
2- Iraq
3- Afghanistan
Pick two.
At least that is how it was (seems to have been) at first. The planning and forethought seems scant (on medals too).
Obviously, there was no original intent of instituting the two specific theater medals and using the one-size fits all expeditionary medal. Moreover, I don't think there was the belief that these wars would go on the way they have. So far, I have heard nothing on campaign stars (or redeployment numbers, like the UN medals?). As multiple tours, in either or both, become universal, here's something else that wants reexamination.
AHHH the campaign star, Alot of us are wondering whenif this is going to happen, as of now theres no word but it would make sense, I mean I have a star on my NDM so why not put a couple more on the Iraq
Afghan medals?
And then what about the stars on the CIB??? ( I know a little off topic) Afghanistan and Iraq are the same theatre so it's not authorized BUT pertaining the the GWOTEM Kuwait is a different theatre???? The pain!!!!!

It does get confusing, Im wearing at the moment the GWOTSM ,GWOTEM AND the Iraq campaign medal.... most don't get both (Iraq and GWOTEM) mot guys got the expeditionary medal which means no Iraq campaign or vice versa. I was stuck in Kuwait for a little over a month which earned me the GWOTEM then once in Iraq I got the campaign medal which technically is a different Theatre.....wheeeew not sure if that makes much sense
Eric
But of course if you have the GWOTEM you can "trade it in for the IraqAfghan campaign, but like most people they just wait for the next tour to get the campaign medals.

Anyone have a copy of the regulations on the Global War on Terror Service? I think more is involved than just being in uniform and breathing.
everyone in the Army gets one as soon as you graduate basic, the expeditionary medal you actually have to "earn" well at least go overseas for 1 day hahaha

Actually, I think it probably is but since this is the way I got it this is the way it will stay...at least for now I got it from the family and I'm sure that they wouldn't have "upgraded" it but then again you never know
