I recently saw on Ebay , a Royal Ulster Constabulary 'bobby' helmet. Were these ever issued?
Most of the ones appearing on ebay were not 'issued' as such but sold on from RUC stores. They come in two patterns - a distinctive scarce early RUC 'bowler' style and a later 'Christies' type pattern (with the RUC crest badge). Whether they are worth the money now being paid is another question, since there are so many of the later pattern still surviving.

you should also look out for the following books
1. 'Ireland for Ever ' Big Gen FP Crozier; Jonathan Cape 1932. Crozier was O/C of the ADRIC for a period.
2. 'The British Campaign in Ireland 1919-1921' Charles Townshend OUP 1975
3. 'Bloody Sunday' James Gleeson Windmill Press 1962 (see chapter "The Auxiliaries Story"; a personal account by Bill Munro ex-ADRIC, mostly concerning Kilmichael but covering all the aspects you are looking for).
You know of Bennett's book, and the 'Kerryman' series which gives incidents but few names. There are many other references to the Auxies but not in the detail you are looking for.

In the First World War, I have noticed that an Assistant Provost Marshall was usually present at the execution by firing squad of soldiers court martialled for disciplinary reasons (the 'Shot at Dawn' men). Does anyone know what role the APM played at the execution - did he give the actual order to fire?
Its a long shot but if anyone has a photo of Capt AJD Simey, APM 6 Division in 1918, I'd be very interested. Peter.

As a new member, I can offer some basic research help to any collectors or owners of medals to the Royal Irish Constabulary. This is generic info only; if you require service details you will have to apply to the appropriate provider.
