    2. Hi Gents

I had actually put these here together because 3 had the numbers on the collar tabs and #3 belongs with #1...

i was going to say what I thought they were but just couldn’t decide

      However I thought (!) #1  was 267 - but see the 1 now....

      I was sure #2  was 135

      I thought #4 was 255 or 235

      So today....

      I agree #1 is 261

       2 is 136 or 236

      3 I now think is 253 or 255

      Hi,

there is no discrepancy in the writing on the back of the photo. It says Stapellauf 1876 and Kaiseradler ehemalige Hohenzollern. All true.

      GreyC

      ehemalige is ‘former’

i was reading it as ‘chemelize’ and all sorts!

      And

On 29/10/2018 at 01:03, Bayern said:

Yes , Stapellauf means Launching, and 1876 was the year .

      I couldn’t read that either,

      cheers

    4. Hi gents, Bayern, GreyC

      thanks for the answers....

So I’m now guessing that the note in the centre was added later. An expansion of the original smaller note at the bottom. That would explain the date being off?

      The bottom reads...

      Kaiseradler chemialize* Hohenzollern

      * chem abbrev above it

what is the middle word please?

      thanks gents

Hello tony , the yacht in the photo is the Seeadler former Hohenzollern . she served as Kaiseryacht between 1880 and 1892 . It was replaced by a much modern  unit which took the name . the ship was renamed Seeadler.

      Hi Bayern.

Not quite correct, I am afraid.

The Hohenzollern (I) served as Kaiseryacht under the names of Hohenzollern and after the new Hohenzollern was launched in June 1891 as the renamed KAISERADLER. As therealready was a ship by this name that was renamed SEEADLER. Only after the new Hohenzollern was put into service in April 1893 the Kaiseradler was decommisioned in October of 1893. However, it saw service one more time during the opening of the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Kanal on 21st June 1895 when it was the temporary home of the Kings of Saxony and Wurttemberg and the prince-regent of Bavaria Luitpold.

It was permanently decommissioned in August of that year.

      Find attached

In addition, I have seen the green color of this shooting rope. What is it?

i believe green marksmanship awards were issued to Jägertruppe. Certainly green wool balls but I’m not sure if the colour of the lanyard/rope was also green.

Also I believe green was issued to pioneers but for skills other than marksmanship.

      Love the pictures as always

      cheers

    6. Hi Gents

      just a thought...

could it have been a pin back badge like this one below?

It would not have left a significant sign?

this one is mine but I don’t know if it’s from that period or if even a cap badge.

      just a thought.....

Not normally.  At the very least it should have been fitted with a General Service badge - the large maple leaf with 'CANADA' across the bottom - of which there were several variants.  More usually, it had a regimental/battalion or corps badge.  The only thing I can think of is that it was never issued to troops and the wear was acquired  by later owners.  A bit of a mystery.

Otherwise, it looks like a nice old original, complete, I think, with the remains of a broad arrow inside a 'C' in the crown in white paint/ink.
