Thanks everyone. Actually, I seem to remember asking this same question on this site a while ago. Sorry, my memory's going!

Could someone tell me please the award criteria for the Grande-Bretagne bar on the French WW2 Commemorative War Medal. Is it service with the Free French forces but solely in the UK, so no active service outside the UK during the war?

1939/45 Star to Jodhpur Infantry - any information on this unit.
Duncan posted a topic in South Asia
Hello, I've got a few 1939/45 Stars to men from the Jodhpur Infantry. Some named '2 Jodhpur Infantry SF' others 'Jodhpur Sardar Infantry SF'. Anyone known the reason for the difference in unit name, and where and when they served? Thank you, Duncan. -
Thank you, that's very kind of you.

That's absolutely fantastic, thank you. I had no idea French military documents were available. I'll run it through Google translate tonight - unfortunately my French is practically non-existent. Very interesting too about the medal. I was confused as to what mutual benefit societies actually were, thank you for clarifying for me. Thank you again. Duncan.

Hello, does anyone have any information on this plaque please? It's quite large and nicely made. I can't find very much information on it online. I've assumed it's possibly wW1 and related to nursing.

I bought this 1943 dated SSAFA badge to add to my collection because of the wartime date, not paying much attention to the recipient's name. When I came to do a bit of research on the name it turns out it might have had a well-known and well connected owner. It's named in the old style i.e. Mrs then the husband's full name. Unless I'm very much mistaken it's Dame Barbara Cartland's father's name? At least, I can't find any other 'Bertram Cartland' listed in UK ancestry sites, other than him. If it is, it's odd that it ended up for sale on Ebay!

Fantastic, thank you. Looks like the star was for each year of service.

Hello, is someone able to identify this medal please, and tell me what it was awarded for and the significance of the ribbon star? I looked on Google, but apart from a few photos, couldn't see any information on it. Kind regards, Duncan.

La Gette bar on the Belgian WW2 Commemorative Medal.
Duncan replied to Duncan's topic in Northern European & Baltic States
Hello, thank you both for the information. The medal pictured looks incomplete without the crossed swords on the ribbon given the information about the conflict. Thank you again for the information. Regards, Duncan. -
I'm really intrigued by this 'Strolling Players' Medal I saw recently, mainly because I can find absolutely no information on it at all and only one website that has a picture of it, and even that says it's use is unknown. It's quite well made too. Does anyone recognise it or know why it was produced?

Thank you for the reply. I had no idea it was for air operations. I'd assumed it was military service based in the UK only, similar to the 'England' bar on the US WW1 Victory Medal. Very interesting, thank you.

Can someone tell me the award criteria for the 'Grande Bretagne' bar on the French WW2 Commemorative Medal please?

That's what I thought, thank you for confirming. I was going to take it off and add it to a Croix de Guerre I have which lost one of its star, but it's too big and wouldn't match the other stars on it's ribbon. Thank you, Duncan.

Hello, recently bought this one and was wondering on the significance of the star on the ribbon. Its slightly larger than the ribbon stars on the Croix de Geurre.

Thank you for the info. I'll stear clear of them. Only have the one in my collection luckily. Have always been put off by their 'cheap' look and poor quality.

Thanks. Never liked those gilt French medals. They often look badly made with poor relief and detail. Think they're more modern but not necessarily fakes.
