    1. I've often seen French WW2 medals in two different finishes, dull bronze and a much brighter 'gilt' finish, as with the two I have in the photos below. Anyone know why the difference? The 'gilt' ones don't look so nice or well finished to my eye. Are they copies, more modern manufacture, fakes?
    2. Hello all, just bought this Hitler's Dank badge, not for much so not the end of the world if its a copy. Any experts out there able to tell me if its a copy or not. I'm a bit suspicious because it's quite thick and well made, so maybe a modern reproduction?
    3. Looks like it would have a fascinating story if it could talk. Not convinced its the Order of white Eagle though, the green or off white goes right to the edge, rather than having the narrow red on the edges. Agree though that it's the 193943 Star before the others were awarded.
    4. Thanks everyone.
    5. Does anyone know why the United Italy 1848-1918 was reissued with the dates 1848-1922?
    6. Certainly looks like that. Definitely green on the reverse too.
    7. Yes, definitely green. I guess the colours could have faded or changed over time though.
    8. Yes, I Googled Turkish Medals and it matches some of theirs. Would be an odd one to have though. Didn't know that, thanks for the info.
    9. Thanks for the info. According to another site I put it on, the 1939-1945 Star ribbon was briefly awarded on its own in 1944, when it was called the 1939-43 Star. No medals awarded, just the ribbon. Awarded mainly to those who served the Battle of France 1940 and some other operations. Then in 1945 it was renamed the 1939-1945 Star and the medal created. Still no ID on the Red and green one. I agree with you, I think it's a foreign award.
    10. Recently bought this. The WW1 trio are straightforward, but rather odd that he or she only got the 1939-1945 Star. Also, does anyone recognise the orange and green ribbon? Can't find it anywhere!
    11. Thank you for the information, really interesting.
    12. That's fascinating, thank you.
    13. Hello, sorry, I know this isn't a war medal, but it's beautiful. Trouble is I know nothing about it. Does anyone know what it is and what it would have been awarded for? Regards, Duncan
    14. Thank you, didn't think of that one.
    15. Hello, I have the Indian Independence Medal engraved Sep 2630517 Mani Ram, GRS. And the Sainya Seva medal with GDR. 2630517 Mani Ram, GRS. Can someone tell me what unit or regiment GRS is please, and what rank GDR is please? Thank you, Duncan.
    16. Thanks for that, almost bought it as it was quite cheap then remembered, "if something is to good to be true then avoid it".
    17. Was going to buy this Silesian Eagle from a Polish dealer for not very much. Was quite doubtful of it though. Was I right to think it might be a copy? Or does it just look like a corroded genuine one? Anyone's advise would be appreciated please.
    18. Sorry, pressed submit before adding my write-up. Meant to say these arrived today. The ribbons are obviously modern, but I'm a bit concerned about the medals themselves. Anyone enlighten me on whether they thing they're modern copies or not. The Ethiopia Campaign one is oddly black!
    19. That's fantastic, thank you for all the information. I'm thinking that the ribbon on the example i posted is an incorrect ribbon, though I have seen a few photos on the web with that ribbon, so who knows!
    20. Does anyone know the award criteria for the Environment Agency Medal please? Can't seem to find any info on it at all. Regards, Duncan.
    21. Thank you both, that's really useful. Kind regards Duncan
    22. Really nice collection ?
