A minor correction. The missing wreath would be what is referred to as a Lorbeerkranz which has pointed leaves as opposed to the fuller oak leaves.

Here, for comparison, is a star which was awarded in 1901. It is marked “W” at six o’clock on the reverse.

A note in Nimmergut states "1865 gab es 44 Inhaber des Ernst August-Kreuzes".
I cannot say if this means that as of 1865, a total of 44 crosses had been awarded or as of 1865 there were 44 surviving holders out of a higher number of total awarded.

Reading through your analysis of this very complex subject, I now realize why so little was known about this rare decoration. You have managed to seek out and put all of the pieces of this puzzle together.

Yes. The Brunswick award (#6) is an officer's cross. Because this grade of the order was not founded until 1908, it is a relatively rare award.
Now, with regard to #7... Bukhara?

I know that the OMSA ribbon bank recently received a donation of a considerable amount of new stock.
I am also sure that there was some of this ribbon in there. Original or repro, I cannot say for sure.

With regard to your question redeagleorder - In his book “Der Hausorden und die Tragbaren Ehrenzeichen des Grossherzogtums Oldenburg 1813 - 1918”, Friedhelm Beyreiss states that 50 pieces were delivered by Knauer. Of these, eighteen were awarded; and of those, two were awarded to men, the remaining sixteen, of course, to women.
I would not be terribly concerned about how your medals are mounted. Inasmuch as this bar would have been assembled from 1934 onwards, we know how by that time the old Imperial guidelines were not strictly followed. Hopefully you will get access to the Schwarzburg Anna-Luisen Verdienstzeichen rolls to solve this mystery. Please keep us posted!

Gentlemen,
From Oldenburg comes one of the more uniquely designed Imperial German decorations - the 1907 Red Cross medal. This one, being on a bow ribbon would be one of sixteen awarded to women.

I am sorry to say that there are not any marks on this SAO cross that would identify a maker. Its companion star does, however, have the usual etched “W” below its catch. Sorry, wish that we could have done better on this one.
