I came a cross a cap bearing this badge a few days ago - I've never seen a similar British police badge, apparently it's Dorset Police, post 1974 It's chromed but only the crown & highlights on the rest of the badge are left siver coloured, the rest is panted matt black, the badge itself is very thin & flat, no depth to it at all, it has west/ east wire loop fittings & it was affixed to a fairly good quality cap which had a blue "silk" lining, buff coloured leather sweatband with velvet pad to the front, shiny smooth black buttons, black plastic chinstrap & peak, & double vent holes at each side & the rear. Small paper size label was pre-metric. Is this badge still in use? Apologies for poor quality of the photos:

Hello, chaps, just posting to let you know that there's a thread on this "Brtish army manual" posted in The British Empire & Commonwealth section of the forum, although only 9 pages long it may be of interest to Imperial German aficianados http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=43917&st=0&gopid=406139&

A strange thread title for the "British Empire & Commonwealth Militaria" forum perhaps (I've posted a link in the Imperial Germany: Other Militaria section), but this thread features a British publication for miltary use. Printed under authority of His Majesty's Stationary Office, the text on the cover of this booklet refers to the German uniform it describes as not yet having been definitely identified "on the front" as of December 1915. First printed in January 1916, this printng is of July 1916, & mention of that month of that year can't help but put you in mind of the events on The Somme of 1st July, 1916. This particular copy has been issued to the Machine Gun Officer of an unknown unit.

Published by a British newspaper "The Daily MIrror" during WWII, a firly colourful little pamphlet showing insigina etc of The Royal Navy, The British army & The Royal Air Force. Wartime austerity requirements have'nt yet reduced the qualty of the paper or the use of colour, but it was published some time after September 1940, as page 20 (post no. 8) refers to the creation of The George Cross & The George Medal.

"Three domes" - I have'nt looked at any of my button collection for years (now relegated to a jumbled box), but I remember that mark - always looked like three Bishop's mitres to me. -

Yes, you'd expect a pose with the bike would'nt you. He could be horse or motorbike rider in that gear, I suppose, pity he isn't shown with his vehicle, it's a nice photo. -

Nice photo - playng to the camera with all the gear on? (I have a photo of a Coldsteam Gurdsman festooned in all kinds of kit at RUC Sprngfield, from 1976). Is t possible to see if he's spike or ball on the helmet? And is that "NORMAN" written on one of the equipment straps? -
Bronze BWM collection
leigh kitchen replied to Brian Wolfe's topic in Great Britain: Orders, Gallantry, Campaign Medals
A bronze BWM is something I'd always wanted, along with a TF Medal, so that I'd have an example of the basic WWI service medals, but priorties & finances conspired aganst me, tho' I think I've got a WWI group which is missing its TF Medal. -

Try the National Archives on line: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/browse-refine.asp?searchType=browserefine&query=last_name%3Dhughes&catID=15&pageNumber=1&queryType=1&mediaArray=* I've just tapped in the name "Hughes", there are a lot of them (including an RO Hughes from Bangor on the first page). Put in his service number & hopefully you've got him - after you've paid a couple of quid.
