THe bar and PLM of Immelmann is only a reproduction not the real bar. The tunic is also not his. I don't know if the EK and CM belong to Immelmann.

... I refer to it as the quadrat maker or just "quadrat", however I'm not convinced they are the badge maker. ...
I'm also not sure if we talk about a producer.

It wasn't particularly just the pin detail I was refering to ,the front of badge is exactly the same die detail as the square punch badges too. I have some good close up pictures of the said badge (square punch) I will try to dig them out. Certainly my Bavarian square punch pilot example is same detail too.Ferg1.
Here an observer badge with square punch.
and an pilot badge out of a group

All that belong together was sold together. the buyer of the aviation group got all the documents from the observer and the documents from the father with the big 1870 bar will be sell together. Nothing suspect here except the confusind description.

The cased aviation group was sold with all award documents and many more. So that the reason why the price rise so high.

Copy of what ??? The piece is clearly not a copy of a standard observer badge as it is 95mm high and has no form of pin/catch assembly. One would think that if the faker lavished this much attention to detail and form then he would take the time to get the enamel colours right , I always think in terms of how many others have I seen of this badge errrrr, none ! So unlikely to have produced one as a copy/fake piece ,sorry Rick, I don't agree. Has patina and wear that says otherwise to me,Ferg1.
Hi Ferg, vary interesting piece with a lot of questions. How does this badge was wear without pin and with this vary anussual and big holes. I think this was fixed on something for decoration and its not a badge. Maybe on a memorabilia or something else, pined with nails or something else.

post #25 shows a retired Prussian Naval Pilots badge
This is for sure a imperial german navy retired aviation badge. The requirements for this badge are the same as for the army retired badge and this are 3 years. One exception was if someone were wound in action and are not able to continue his duty as navy pilot or observer he also could get this badge.

First , issue examples top left is Juncker and tombak ....
Hi Fergus,
have you some facts, why you think this piece is made by C.E.JUNCKER.
I know that there are many similarities to the silver hollow piece or to the air gunnar from JUNCKER.
I show a identical piece in Post#7.

Here is my new piece. Marine observer by Hugo Schaper of Berlin. Gilded bronze. Scratched engraved on reverse BORS . The S has the top and tail seriffed as in the rank description ' zur See'. Anyone recognize ? Fetg1.
Vary nice bird. It have all notes of an SCHAPER piece exept the pin. The gilded looks vary dark to me (because of the light?), more like brown
Here my SCHAPER observer.

Hi S?dwester,
you got a lot of answer in other forum but there were all negative. You forget to say that this one is made of zinc.
I saw only two documents of this badge. One sold on Thies with badge another document in a group with badge came from privat.
Both badges were made of metall but no zinc.
