Hardy,
He could be any kind ground worker, mechanic (Monteur), staff typist, but not flying personnel. His rank is too low. They German airforce dipped all the way down to Unteroffizier for flying personnel, but I can't recall ever hearing of a Gemeiner getting off of the ground.
Chip
usually thats right. But there were also "Gefreiter" (private) as pilot. He could be also an pilot or gunner but probable he isn`t.

Mike, is that what it looks like? A Commander St Henry! That would fit perfect in my collection. You are right, its most likely a Crimea ribbon. I like your British group. I too have a Crimea pair with a Indian Mutiny in the group. I've collected British awards and still have most.
Here a look of two St Henry from my collection.
First one.

Need your opinion on this Knight cross of Baden Militaer Karl Friedrich Verdienstorden?
It`s 3rt Modell (1919-1918) Silver. Stamped with "SILBER 800" on ring. But could be also "SILBER 900"

Alex,
the photograph is from "Die gelbe Ulanen-Brigade". The original photograph was very small so I am not sure if a better scan is possible. I will try this evening.

Glenn
