    1. This one is absolutely made up. The first VoG was probably intended as a Glory 3rd, but the order of the ribbons is just completely wrong, and add to that all the different sizes... But the first eight ribbons could once have been a good bar I guess. I don't see why someone would put so much effort in turning a $3 bar into a $4 bar though.

The bar looks okay to me. The two bigger ribbons are most likely added by the veteran himself.

The first yellow / black ribbon is the ribbon for victory over Germany and the second one on the bar is for the jubilee medal 25 years Victory over Germany. As there is no official ribbon the veterans used sometimes the ribbon for Victory over Germany.

Here are two examples with older plastic coverd ribbons.

On one suspension you find two of the Victory over Germany ribbons and on the other bar the last ribbon is the 25 years over victory medal (yellow - black)

    2. In the period February-March the operational personnel of the group under his personal command unmasked three German intelligence agents, five traitors and betrayers towards the motherland, and an anti-Soviet element, and brought them before the military tribunal

Nice citation. "If you read these citations you can come to the conclusion the whole Red Army was filtrated by german spy´s." :ninja:

    3. The awards are indeed non-military and the 2nd Class OPW indicates that he didn't receive any bravery awards, so there are probably no documents for him in the archives.

I looked after his name and he has most likely no military awards till beginning 1943.

As he has a second class OGPW-1985, he has no wartime 1st or 2nd class OGPW, but he could have a late Red Star, Bravery Medal or military merit medal.

But it´s a nice group  , you do not see Oktober Revolution awards so often in a group, mostly separate sold.

    4. This Star was supposedly issued in mid-1945, so a 900K range one would certainly be possible (though most were issued in late 1944). I have no documentation of it (yet) but this one came in a group to an American soldier of the 69th Division.

As far as a new beginning...LOL...until prices come back to what they were in 2003, I still can't afford Soviet collecting!

      Dave,

the picture of the mint mark is not very clear. Is the mint mark straight, curved up ... how long 8 mm 9 mm or 10 mm.

Here you can compare the mint mark

Possible an MMD production in 1944 V2

    5. Could the first one, a german stick pin for members of the german comunist party in the beginning 30´s?

      regards

      Andreas

      Hi all,

Here's a couple of stickpins I just managed to acquire. Way back in the days before the fall of the wall when such things were few and far between I got a large grouping of mostly TR pieces. In it was a single stickpin like the first one below. I was stupid and let it go. Been wanting another one ever since I got into Soviet collecting. It's taken me a ton of years but without further ado here they are:

      1950's 3/4 inch:

      Pre 1970's 1/2 inch:

If any of you happen to have similar examples say from different time periods I'd love to see them.beer.gif

    6. I found some video compilations on a ghost town on the island of Spitzbergen which was a Soviet mining town.

This one has some really cool signs, a monument and a set of three miner's Orders on a building... would love to have those in my collection!2014.gif

    7. Long time since those posts...

I still have his medal and was wondering whether it's worth insuring in its own right and/or so I can estimate the total of my collection for insurance purposes (I'm okay with estimate the UK/Commonwealth stuff)?

I know very little about Soviet prices, this being my only gallantry example (and only USSR award aside from a c.1944 MMM to a female transport NCO for directing convoys).

Any ball park figures for the Bravery Medal and the researched MMM to a female soldier?

      Any information gratefully received.

      Rich

To make a judgemant about the originality and the price of the Bravery medal we need better pictures of the suspension.

    8. Hi Andreas,

Many thanks for the info!jumping.gifjumping.gif And I know it's impossible to be totally sure until researched but do you feel this would most likely have been a long service award?

Any thoughts on the Glory? I'm thinking 1944 based on the green bible... does that sound right?unsure.gif

      Dancheers.gif

      ----------------

Yes the Glory s/N: 227.835 is most likely around the end of 1944 / beginning 1945.

Difficult, with the Red Star. Both is possible. But itz is not the typical serial number range of long service.

      best regards
