I definitly need to find a copy of the books!
Would it be possible for you to scan/photo the 69 names 1944-1996 for me?
With that list I think I would be able to ID the medalbar.
I don't have the medalbar in hand yet, but it does look like a gold medal right?

Unfortunately, no N. G. T. Holmström listed in C. P. Mulders "Dutch Awards conferred on Scandinavians". The book covers the periods 1892-1940 and 1944-1996.
Thank you for your reply but it was not what I was hoping for.
The search continues....
Does the book list alot of Swedes with this particular medal?
It seems that the book is very difficult to obtain with none available for sale.

Hi!
According to the book "Finlands frihetskrig år 1918" (Theslöf, Ignatius, Palmén, Soikkeli, Grotenfelt, Nordenstreng), in book 4 on page 193, there were two officers from Norway that took part on the white side in Finland 1918.
I believe I've found one - Lieutenant Paul Holmeskog, Nylands Dragoner. I attach a picture from Harald Natvig's book - Holmelund is in the front.
But who can the other officer be? Anyone from Norway that know this?
There might be a book that can help out, but I don't have it: "Finland 1918 – Den finske borgerkrigen og nordmennene som var vitne til den" (Mårten Jentoft).
Regards,
Stefan
According to the newspaper Uusimaa number 74 of 1918 Holmelund was the only norwegian officer.
Below is a clip of the article that mentions that he was probably the only one.

Does anyone recognice this signature?
The document is marked with what I believe is:
Artillerie-Führer I.Abt. II Kr. 5329/22
And dated 14 November 1922 in Königsberg.

Johan, I found these two documents that mention a Finnish and Swedish order awarded to Kapitän zur See Erich Schulte Mönting.
Could you please check if these classes and award dates are correct:
- Finnish Order of the Cross of Liberty 2nd Class with Oak Leaves and Swords (25 March 1942)
- Commander's Cross 2nd Class of the Swedish Order of the Sword (22 October 1940)
It's possible that the Swedish award date for the Order of the Sword will be different. The date in the document below could be the German approval date.
Many thanks!
Hello!
Mönting received the Swedish order on the same date as the document. October 22nd 1940.
The Finnish order I don't know. I don't have access to those dates or awards. Mattikkala's book only lists 1st class orders.
But you could contact the order chancellery and ask about the date.

Perhaps this new book on Finnish awards to Germans would bring some new names to the lists....
About 3500 names of german recipients.

Hello!
No, there is not any lists available to the public.
But you can contact the order chancellery and ask if a certain person received an order.
They don't answer questions about why someone received an order or medal.0 -

Johan, could you please double check if Vizeadmiral Heinz Nordmann was awarded the Finnish Order of the Cross of Liberty 1st Class with Swords on 15 April 1944?
Because his Personalakte states he received it on 12 April 1944.
Thanks!
The date according to Matikkala's book is 15 April and with swords.

So if I understand it correctly you are not 100% certain that it is possible?
But the information about the recipients should be at the National Archive?
The reason I ask is that I've heard years ago from another collector that it isn't possible to find any names to these medals. So I am curious if there are any new information about this.

Hey Christer
Did you also manage to get the larger medal bar? It is possible to find out the recipient with the numbering on the civil guard merit medal.
Interesting.
How do you do to research a civil guard medal?0 -
There is finally a list of Finnish awards to Germans in 1918 published!
About 3500 awards and only 50 copies printed.
See below:

Unfortunately I don´t have any numbers of how many 1st class crosses are awarded. But they are not super rare among high-ranking officers.
But what makes it rare is that most of the awardees are still alive and in service, so there are not many crosses on the market. In the future it will probably be more available.

Here is my newest addition to my collection.
The first new Libertycross I got since January 2021 so the ones I still need are getting more and more difficult to find.
Here is a Libertycross 1st class with swords and without year on the back.
Unfortunately there are some damage to the enamel, but how often do you see these crosses for sale?

Hello Johan,
Can you find any information about the Finnish Order of the Cross of Liberty for Friedrich Wilhelm Kurze?
According to his Personalakte (see the photo below), he was awarded the Finnish Order of the Cross of Liberty and the Finnish Commemorative Medal of the „War of Liberation“ in January 1919.
I would be interested in the exact class of the Cross of Liberty and the exact award date, if you have it.
Thanks!
Was he Oberleutnant zur See on S.M.S. "Rheinland"?
I have unfortunately not access to any dates on awards.
And I don't know if I should give away to much information that is in the upcoming book on finnish awards to germans...

Great!
Thank you very much!
I am trying to ID this medalbar.
The Vasa order is bestowed before 1974.
The Italian star after 1947
The norwegian medal between 1958 and 1991
So I guess the Dutch medal should also be from somewhere 1950-1980.
