Distinction for Public Security Service, silver grade, Reverse

Here are two types of the Distinction for Public Security Service.

The Distinction for Public Security Service was founded in three grades by the President of the Hungarian Republic in 1947 to arward members of the police for long service or to defeat the public security.

The award was abolished by the ministercouncil in 1951.

The first degree was a gold medal with enamel, the second a silver and the third a bronze medal.

The gold grade was awarded 16 times, the silver grade 16 times and the bronze grade 7225 times.

Star Order of the Hungarian People?s Republic

The Star Order of the Hungarian People?s Republic was founded by law decree No. 18 in 1984 by the Presidential Concil of the Hungarian People?s Republic.

The Star Order was awarded to acknowledge outstanding merit in the construction of socialismin, further in the field of political, economic an cultural life. Moreover in the service to defense the country, in safeguarding public order as well as in strengthening friendship among peoples, etc.

The Star Order exists in three different forms. Each form is a seperat decoration and there are no differences between the degrees.

The three types and the total sum of awards are:

- Star Order of the Hungarian People?s Republic with gold wreath 178 awards

- Star Order of the Hungarian People?s Republic with swords 74 awards

- Star Order of the Hungarian People?s Republic 466 awards

Because there were no socialist symbols on the order or on the ribbon, the order was transfered to a Republic?s decoration. The order was annulled by law No. XXXI in 1991.

I saw this medals in the 1959 style only a several times in Hungary. The 1969 style I saw only one time.

The price was in the past not the problem (before 2004), less then $ 50 in Hungary. A document and an etui I have never seen.
