ROMANIA fighting against Germany in WW2
numis replied to numis's topic in Central & Eastern European States
Thank you for the additional information posted above I would be interested to know whether the Western Front Army was composed mainly of troops who had already served on the Eastern front or whether there was either fresh recruitment of men who had not yet served in action and not been on the Eastern front I am more interested in the awards received by the lower ranks than by the senior officers . In terms of what I might collect personally , I would be interested to collect only awards to persons who had ONLY served on the Western front against the Nazis Was there any anti-fascist resistance in Romania 1941-4 and , if yes, how were they eventually rewarded for such activities , if they were rewarded? -
I have seen stated that circa 2000 of these were awarded circa 1941-7 As far as i am aware Mongolia was only actively engaged against Japan in late 1945 What were awards up until then awarded for as no fighting seems to have been going on until then ? How many were actually awarded for fighting Japan in 1945?

ROMANIA fighting against Germany in WW2
numis replied to numis's topic in Central & Eastern European States
Thanks for responses so far How about retrospective awards for WW2 service after Rumania became communist ? Was there not a campaign medal ( and any document with it ) ? And any other ? Were there participants who had awards for fighting for ( ie Crusade against communism medal ) and later against Germany ? What Soviet Russian ( and Czech? ) awards were made to the Rumanians ? (Were any of the Russian campaign medals included ? ) What was the status exactly of Monarchial era awards in Communist Rumania ? Was any distinction made between those awarded for fighting against Germany with Russia and others ? -
I have none so far but am interested in acquiring Mongolian awards for WW2 and the pre-war clashes with Japan I see various single awards on the market but wish to consider whether there is any standard group of awards to one recipient that one should look out for (eg including contemporary plus the later anniversary awards ) Besides the Mongolian " We have won " medal , did Mongolians also receive the Russian War against Japan Medal ? Can anyone advise ?

I have none , but am interested in acquiring ,awards to the Romanian forces which fought against Germany in the latter stages of World War Two My reference books do not cover this specifically What were the awards ( and related documents / certificates etc ) that applied ? Is there any standard group of awards to a recipient who participated that one should look out for ?

I would also be interested to receive details of the ribbon , if any , that went with this medal Both specimens that I have acquired are without ribbon

I would be interested to know whether this is an official ( Cuban state ) award or an unofficial award such as that of a veteran's organization
-
Thank you for your response and the information contained therein Drugo It might be of interest to other members to see a photo of the medal .I do not have the equipment to post one myself I wonder whether the Zagreb celebration was confined to Yugoslavian Veterans only or whether veterans from other countries were invited to attend as well I believe that previously the Yugoslav Veterans had issued or been issued a wearable ribboned medal for Spain 1936-9 Numis

Would anyone be able to provide information about awarding authority , award criteria , recipient population , numbers awarded etc of bronze wearable medal inscribed " COMBATIENTE INTERNACIONALISTA ESPANA 1936 1939 " . Presumably for survivors ( Cuban only ? ) of the International Brigades My internet searches did not turn up anything other than an illustration

Would anyone have any concrete information ( awarding authority ; award criteria; recipient population ; number awarded etc ) about a base metal medal awarded to " VOLUNTARIOUS INTERNACIONALES DE LA LIBERTAD " at a meeting in Zagreb 30.x.1966 The medal is nonwearable , circular , uniface and the obverse depicts a clenched hand above a map of Spain over a Star above a circle . Also the dates " 1936 1966" The plain reverse of a specimen seen is stamped " SISKO ANTI " ( presumably recipient name ) and " SKOPSTINA GRADA ZAGREBA 30.X.1966 "

SILVER STAR with MERCHANT MARINE COMBAT BAR ( William O Stewart )
numis replied to numis's topic in United States of America
I was not referring to the Silver Star Decoration. What I was referring to is a small silver star device affixed to the MM Combat Bar ribbon According to my info the device is not a second award of the Combat bar but instead denotes having had to abandon ship due to enemy action ( including mine sinkings ) The Combat Bar on its own is for seeing action without necessarily having had to abandon ship The card with Stewart's award is annotated " star " In WW1 Stewart served with S African Forces and received the BWM and bilingual VM I reiterate my starting question as to whether details of the incident are findable -
When in NYC I bought at a flea market a box containing a WW2 Pacific Theatre USN group to Walter Alfred Jensen, USN . Included in the group is a Navy Good Conduct Medal Also in the same box with his Dogtags and a few documents were a New York State Medal for Merit and an ARMY GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL These latter two have not yet been verified as having been awarded to him Would a combination of both of the Navy and Army Good Conduct Medals to the same recipient be possible ? ( Also : how can one verify the New York Medal ?)

I have one of these in a group for WW2 USN Pacific Theatre service Would anyone know how many of these might have been issued for WW2 service ? It is apparently classified as a " Distinguishing Mark " Do they come on the market often ? Was it only a WW2 award ? What lifespan did it have ? Any assistance with these queries would be much appreciated
