    1. Thank you for your response and the information contained therein Drugo

It might be of interest to other members to see a photo of the medal .I do not have the equipment to post one myself

I wonder whether the Zagreb celebration was confined  to Yugoslavian Veterans only or whether veterans from other countries were invited to attend as well

I believe that previously the Yugoslav Veterans had issued or been issued a  wearable ribboned medal for Spain 1936-9

      Numis

    2. Would anyone be able to provide information about awarding authority , award criteria , recipient population , numbers awarded etc

of bronze wearable medal inscribed " COMBATIENTE INTERNACIONALISTA  ESPANA 1936 1939 " .

Presumably for survivors ( Cuban only ? ) of the International Brigades

My internet searches did not turn up anything other than an illustration

    3. Would anyone have any concrete information  ( awarding authority ; award criteria; recipient population ; number awarded etc ) about a base metal medal awarded to " VOLUNTARIOUS INTERNACIONALES DE LA LIBERTAD  " at a meeting in Zagreb 30.x.1966

The medal is nonwearable , circular , uniface and the obverse depicts  a clenched hand above a map of Spain over a Star above a circle . Also the dates " 1936 1966"

The plain reverse of a specimen seen is stamped " SISKO ANTI " ( presumably recipient name ) and "  SKOPSTINA GRADA ZAGREBA 30.X.1966 "

    4. I was not referring to the Silver Star Decoration.

What I was referring to is a small silver star device affixed to the MM Combat Bar ribbon

According to my info the device is not a second award of the Combat bar but instead denotes having had to abandon ship due to enemy action ( including mine sinkings )

The Combat Bar on its own is for seeing action without necessarily having had to abandon ship

The card with Stewart's award is annotated " star "

In WW1 Stewart served with S African Forces and received the BWM and bilingual VM

I reiterate my starting question as to whether details of the incident are findable

    5. When in NYC I bought at a flea market a box containing a WW2 Pacific Theatre  USN group to Walter Alfred Jensen, USN .

Included in the group is a Navy Good Conduct Medal

Also in the same box with his Dogtags and a few documents were a New York State Medal for Merit and an ARMY GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL

These latter two have not yet been verified as having been  awarded to him

Would a combination of both of the Navy and Army Good Conduct Medals to the same recipient be possible ?

( Also : how can one verify the New York Medal ?)

    6. John C Meehan served in the European -African -Middle East Theatre and Army of Occupation Germany during WW2

His group includes a named Bronze Star and a named Purple Heart

      Would anyone have any

(i)details ( gazetting , citation etc ) on these two awards or know where such could be found

and(ii) WW2 service information about him

and (iii) any biographical information about him ( he may have died in Patterson , NJ in 2009 ) ?
