Sometimes being a klutz has its upside. Due to a sudden (and painful) encounter between my shin and a trailer tongue I was home to participate in Detlev Niemann's Friday Feeding Frenzy. After the blood and bits of flesh cleared I came up with this little beauty
From the baling twine loop I think it was originally intend to sit flat on a desk or table. There seems to be some old paper tape under the more modern masking tape holding it on. The thread holding th bottom arm of the EK in place appears to be Feldgrau uniform thread.
BTW, it took nearly 2 weeks of experimenting to get a nearly reflectionless photo.

Here are a couple different Bavarian Military Merit Cross 3rd Class with Swords docs, one from 1915 (21X35.5cm.) and the other from 1918(21X16.5cm). Can we safely assume the size change was made to conserve paper?

From the variant translations in my disintegrating 1897 German-English dictionary it could be a tax/fee for moving into a new house. Anyhow, sounds like it belongs in the lounge. Moving tax waived :cheeky:

While cataloging my miscellaneous docs I came across this. Don't even know if it's military related, as the stamp is from Schl?chtern, maybe corporate? Might just be a mouse catching receipt I can make out 3 June 1864 and maybe 80 Gulden, but that's about it. Any help would be more than welcome.
If it doesn't belong here feel free to move it or scrap it.

I picked this up with a lot of mostly crap, and it was a couple years before I realized it was a Johanniter
14.5mm

This just arrived from Hamburg yesterday.
Not as impressive as some others here, but I like it.

So, being a dog man I'd be safe replacing the cigarette filter material with natural fleece?

Very nice
I don't think the '64 is an issue piece (round ?se), but still contemporary with the bar

The star was used by Austrian makers to denote bronze gilt. Also on bayonets :o

among the fascinating things to be found in the Strelitz rolls are the "Comments" column notations on REJECTIONS--
including one of the Kaiser's sons, whose proposal for an ordinary 2nd class was turned down!
That snotty little brat Rupprecht?

the one i am really intrigued by is the small medallion from schleswig-holstein.
50th anniversary of the annexation of Schleswig-Holstein.
Jeez, guess I should start buying lunch for coin dealers
I think you got your money's worth.

von Hessenthal states the device as being 30mm high by 23mm wide. Here's a full size one on a ribbon for comparison. The cross and ribbon are both 30mm.

Galicia. Now I understand. Damn shifting borders. Who needs 'em?

So now we have Pole in the Austrian Army in Italy. I thought Poland was Germany and Russia's pingpong ball.

A friend asked me to make a copy of this photo for him. It's his wife's grandfather, a Ukranian national. What's a Ukranian doing in the Austrian Army in Italy?

It's an aurochs, a fearsome and now extinct wild ox. Go to Wikipedia, Aurochs in art, history, mythology, and media.
The linguate grimace is reminiscent of Greek Gorgons. I imagine the message is "We're big, we're strong, and if you mess with us we'll ---- you up bad"

Here are 2 other styles, both silver plated.

I'm rather skeptical of the EK too and have never seen Oakleaves like those.

They weren't always worn separately. The left hook is reversed and it's right counterpart missing. Made to go through horizontal lops on the uniform.

The Bavarian one is a little harder to find.... there's several others MUCH harder to find than this! The mecklenburg ones are almost impossible!
Ya mean like this? Another one from Stuttgart.

Another little bit of flotsam that turned up during my seemingly endless cataloging venture.
The little cleats on a Gebigsj?ger's shoes tend to wear off/fall off/ disappear after a time. What would be more natural than to stick one of these in your Tornister of Brotbeutel?
