In a desperate attempt at catching up I sent all my money to Herr Doktor To Be in Porscheburg and got a box of goodies.(More on that later) Among the treasures was this '14 EKII on my favorite style mount. Ho hum, you say, another EK. Unlimbering my trusty loupe and gently exposing the ring I discovered, to my delight, a mark. Is it a "7", a "2", a "Z", or possibly an "N"? But that's not the best part. Not satisfied with this inspection I turned my attention to the ?se and, mirabile dictu, found a very clearly incised backwards "J"
Oh boyoboyoboyoboy

The only one I've seen for sale in the last several years I now own. As I recall I paid around $1500 back when the dollar was still worth something. It's cased with a companion 70/71 in Stahl on a Damenschliefen (sp?).

Brown-red? So much for the MVO. They look grey on my screen. This is the one I was thinking of.

3. Five place ribbon bar
EK2/Hindenburg (missing swords)/Westwall (???)/LS/???
Is the third ribbon Westwall and what would be the last ribbon??? This bar is not in the best shape but still I am happy to have it!
The inner stripes of the last ribbon look like the "disappearing blue" of a Bavarian MVO.

How about some views of man's best friend?

Guess I'll start the ball rolling with this shot of Russians and their German pals. I doubt that the headline on the in the barefoot newsboy's paper is screaming "Armistice", unless December 1917 was unseasonably warm

Looks like a silver Ehrenzeichen f?r Treue in der Arbeit, instituted in 1895 and awarded for 25 years' uninterrupted service to the State.

Don't know much about Saxon stuff, but the cypher and lines bordering the cross aren't the quality I'd expect. Looks almost like a high quality casting. I'd give it a miss.

Beautiful. Where do you find this stuff?

I have my doubts about this one. The pebbling in the background seems too regular as compared to any of mine in any color. I hope someone can prove me wrong, as there are many, many different patterns.

Sustitute "silver"for "gold' in my previous answer.

The pattern seems to compare favorably to a Black in my collection, and the gold looks good. Methinks it's a winner

Being an inquisitive sorta of guy I decided to look under the padding in the box. You never know what you might find. Now, this is it. Tell me this is a lock of hair from the owner?
Considering the length, more likely from his wife/girlfriend/female relative.
Or his favorite horse

of course I will post larger images

Please do, especially the section on manufacture. I've wanted to post pages from my copy but couldn't scan it without damaging it. It's a neat little book.

A better view of the Cross.

Prussia's Verdienstkreuz f?r Frauen und Jungfrauen and a 70/71KDM f?r Nichtk?mpfer on Damenschleife.

Very nice bars ! Thanks for showing.
The suspension ring on the MEZ may be original, a very early version. Can you recognize two lines like those on the pic on the outer edge of the ring ?
Regards
CSForrester
Nope, it doesn't have the ridges like yours. It seems to be round stock that was slightly flattened on both sides to match the thickness of the medal.

Hi Tom,
Very nice!
Is the suspension ring on the MEZ original or has it been repaired?
TIA,
David
Thanks, all.
Looks like a repair to me. The original was prolly about twice that size. That's fine, though. The guy cared enough about it to have it fixed.

really nice. How many awarded?
I don't have the figures, but as Oldenburg only fielded one brigade in '66 there couldn't have been too many.
