Interesting. Very interesting. Have you compared it to the one somebody split apart? (I'm sorry, I do not remember what forum it was on)
Not yet. I can't remember where it was either.

Looks good to me, although it appears to have been repainted. Keep an eye on the "veining". It can often hide rust beneath.

It could also be a "zinc" core......
Micha
Hi Tom, I think someone got into a "stash" of these recently. Although the others I have seen had smaller rings. All seem to be one-piece, non-magnetic. I initially was unsure as to age, but cannot argue them into the "new" category. The quality has just been too good.Nope, a magnet sticks to the core like glue, but not the frame. Here are a couple more I've had for quite a while.
The rusty one has a blued core.

i've had good luck with Rust Free from PMS Products, Inc. followed by application of T-9 to keep rust from reoccurring.

Well, almost. This one just came in today. It has a 2 piece stamped, and seemingly silvered, steel core. Only 11.78 g.

'14, 4 piece stamped core. Unmarked

Looks like it was done on a grinding wheel or disc.
No, it was done with some kind of punch, maybe a small screwdriver, and the scratched, probably with a corner of the punch/ screwdriver to remove the rest. There are convex marks on the back from the operation. The owner was proud enough of his sevice not to be deterred by the ban on the Hakenkreuz.

A lot of you will freak over this one, but I like it. Someone didn't want to wait til '57.

Jeez, after seeing all these great examples it's almost embarrassing to post my one and only

Not to mention many of the smaller dogs such as terriers were used to hunt and kill rats.
Dan Murphy
Yup, I forgot about that . Shouldn't have. My Uncle Joe kept terriers instead of cats to patrol the barn. The little guy in the first photo looks a little too portly to be a good ratter, though

Two apparently different methods of suspension. Two Artillerymen im Feld with the ribbon through the cross.[attachmentid=24626]
And a studio shot where the Cross seems to be hung separately, maybe from a hook?[attachmentid=24628]
Does anyone have any photos of a "Wedding Bow" ?

You've all heard of a seadog...[attachmentid=24623]
Anyone else have any puppy pix to show?

Like all good soldiers, they needed a little R&R now and then. But sometimes there were repecussions, as this Sch?ferhund found out.

Man's bestfriend has been associated with war since time immemorial. I can picture a Neanderthal saying, "Sic 'em, Wuff." They were used as combattants, aid workers, and for just plain companionship. This little fellow falls into the last class.

OK, now how is this bar possible? 1870 EK2 w. Oaks but no 1870 KDM??? I don't think so.......
Maybe not regs, but the EK would make a KDM unecessary, like an Alsen ot D?ppel and no '64 KDM.

Looks like "Untffz" (Unteroffizier) Scribblyname
But which one? That was a very large family
This would have gone with it.

Medalnet, the disc on the back of your Star appears to be knurled. Does it unscrew?

At the other end of the scale, a gift from a fellow member, great guy, and first class rabble rouser
BTW, anyone got a spare ribbon lying around?

With your permission, to make things a little easier:
#24 Hungarian Campaign Medal
#'s11, 21, and 25 Austrian Jubilee Medal and Cross
#26 Austrian MVK, Bravery Medal, all grades, Merit Medal, all grades, Verdienstkreuz, all grades, and maybe some I'm forgetting.

I have 5 other papers for Horst Hain and would like to know what are these for?
This one's a preliminary doc for a Knight's Cross. Let's see the rest.

Tom,
Nice pieces. The Meybauer appears to be a later war variation when silver was hard to get. It looks like a zinc back plate and a plated brass nut. I have never seen one like this before. The clamshell is nice too. Is the screwback steel? I have never seen that before either. And the pillow back, what can I say, sweet. All in all a super nice group.
Dan Murphy
You're right about the Meybauer plate. Nonmagnetic with "that taste". The clamshell's nonmagnetic, too. From the verdegris I would imagine plated brass. The rust must have come from something it was stored with.
