After our recent derailment of the Christmas thread to Feldpost I think maybe it's time to share some cards for the rest of the year.
The message is a little pessimistic on this one, but I like the graphics.

I posted this before on another thread, but might as well do it again. The Hesse-Kassel 14/15 KDM.

micha-
this is one that deserves a spot in the collection
for many reasons, not the least of which is
that intriging back plate.
what ARE they going for on e-bay? elsewhere?
thanks,
joe
I paid 275 Euro for this one a while back.

Thanks, guys. a.D. means retired, right? I've found a Staatminister von M?ller in Beilefeld with a leather factory. Definitely important to the war effort. Sounds like it might be the guy. Wonder how he screwed up. Married a showgirl? Ate with the wrong fork?

and a congratulatory telegram dated 2 months before the award date and 9 months before the issue of the doc
My German isn't good enough to read the telegram and the translation to Babelfishese (Babelfishian?) leaves a lot to be desired, so could someone translate, please?

not very common either. A doc for an EKII am wei?-schwartzen Bande for for Staatminister a.D von Moeller.

Looks like a Saxon mount. I've seen similar on veterans' pieces but never on an EK.

In 1821 Hesse-Kassel issued this to veterans of the Freedom War. Like its Prussian counterpart, it was struck from captured French cannon, and is so stated on the rim, thus setting a prcedent for the 1870-71 medal.
It was suspended from this ribbon, now long gone to dust.

not that it'll do any good, but I sent the toerag a rather nasty e-mail. At least it made me fel better.
I think it was Gordon, in another time and another place, who described a suitable punishment for him involving a length of garden hose and some barbed wire.

thanks Gents,
I am starting to really get into these early medalbars....
Just picked up a three place bar, with Konigsgratz cross Centar and 1870-71 medal...no bars tho...
And have picked up single medalbars for the 1870-71 Non combattants war medal, and combattants...
Cheers,
Paul
The slope is getting slipprier. 1870-71, then 66, 64, 48-49, and finally 13-15 Beware

Replace it on the bar, but keep the damaged one as an "anatomy lesson". If it weren't for this piece which, although much more easily reparable, I intend to keep as is, I wouldn't know that there were numbers scratched in the back of the core.
