All German Army decorations and even the German Order of Merit are nothing but a shame for a country, which once produced the finest orders in the World in past days
But today the government has no "Feeling" for such stupid things like orders.
The result is a cheap piece of metal with some plastics on it!
greetings

Hi,
Well said and truly a shame. U.S. medals are not much better in quality and the U.S. military has gone "ribbon" happy long ago.

Hi,
Thanks for posting this photo and information from Rick. I especially enjoyed seeing the Prussian Wilhelm Order. It's the first I've ever seen. It is quite peculiar in design. The collar is really odd and the Order itself with the Kaiser Wilhelm image is quite modest (no enamel?). So very rare as well, has anyone here ever seen a real one in person?

Sam

Hi,
Thanks everyone for the replies. Also, thanks Claudio for posting the photo. It did not occur to me that it went so high because of the document Chris. That may be the reason. It went over my head, as I am not a document collector myself. Saschaw, I agree and I thought with the Turkish award it would top out at maybe 325. Once again, thanks to all for taking time to add input, I really thought I was missing something "hiding in plain sight" as the saying goes.
Kind regards,
Sam K.

Hi,
Is it just me, or was 700 GBP way too much for this bar. Maybe I'm missing something here?

Sam K.

Hi,
Beautiful piece and one of my favorite Imperial German awards. Thanks for posting such excellent photos.

I put her items on my watch list and have asked her to put the complete set up for auction again because it is worth much more as 1 group and i am eager to bid >15k for the combined group.
Of course, I am not ACTUALLY going to bid on it, just having a little fun at the expense of the destroyer of history.

Hi,
Many of you may have already seen this, but it is of interest. It's a great bar, probably traceable. It was taken apart by the seller to be sold for the individual awards. A real shame.

Hi,
The collar tabs look like they might be Weimar era police.

But it would be possible for an Austrian Officer, NOT to get an EK2?
Matt
Yes, of course, I was merely pointing out this is an officers bar, not an enlisted. The MVK (#1) and Signum Laudis medals (#3&4 ) were awarded to officers.

Sam

The 1914 Iron Cross was an officers award for Austrians, this is an EM/NCO bar.
The second award on this bar was only awarded to officers.

Hi,
Odd that he has sword devices on the ribbons of a couple of awards that have swords incorporated into their design aready.

Hi,
I know the fellow on the right is a native Bavarian, but is that still the correct precedence putting the 1905 Luitpold medal ahead of a gallantry award (MEZ)even though it was from a "foreign" country?

Hi,
What were these awarded for?

Norwegian Order of St. Olaf.
MORE peculiar-- am not sure what he is wearing in front of THAT annnnnd....
Hi,
It looks like it may be a Wurttemburg Friedrichs-Orden Knight 1st Class.

Hi,
Are these copies? They don't seem to have the quality or looks of originals, the crown doesn't look correct among other things.

Sam,
You are correct in that a Feldwebel wore those, but a Sergeant, a Vizefeldwebel and an Offizierstellvertreter had the same collar Tresse and button. The differentiating features for a Feldwebel were the double rings of braid on the cuff (not always worn, as in this photo) and the sleeve chevrons.
Chip
Hi,
Thanks for the information, I have seen the double cuff braids similar to a WWII "Der Speiss", but never have seen chevrons like those pictured.

With the Brandenburg cuffs, I would assume he is infantry.
The sleeve chevrons indicate the rank of Feldwebel
Chip
Hi,
Really? I thought the tress around the neck and the button on the neck indicated a feldwebel. Thanks,
Sam K.

What are the sleeve chevrons?

Hi,
Personally, I ALWAYS have a problem with bars that have shiny new ribbons.
