Hi Raz,
Thanks for taking the time to post these photos. I must confess that I'm not very knowledgeable of WWII in the Pacific theater, beyond a general understanding, i.e. details are lacking. Photos of bunkers always prove to be very interesting, especially interior shots. As was the case with this one, so many (In all theaters) seemed to have proven useless in the end, especialy considering the cost in labor and treasure to construct. Most becoming tourist attractions, animal barns or simply abandoned to the elements. Believe it or not, some here in the states have become homes.

Sam

Thanks for all the insight, although I really enjoy imperial awards , I'll never understand all the unit affilations, etc....amazing the knowledge here. I have a lot of studying to do.

What regiment is he in? .. .. 5?
Hi Rick,
It's "15".

P.S. Were'nt these type of medal bars (trapezoidal) out of style by WWI?

Hi,
Excellent photos. It's interesting to try and get a feel for what these men were going through/thinking at the time they were photographed.

Sam
P.S. Those "pork pie" hats were just awful looking. I understand they were not real popular with the troops either. Another benefit of making NCO; get a visor for your mutze

Hi,
I thought I'd post this interesting study of a prussian lieutenant with an EK1 and 3er spange consisting of the EK1, MVO4x, SLKVK.

Hi,
It seems everyone was smaller back then. I've seen a Mexican colonels uniform here in Texas at the Battle of San Jacinto monument museum (Texas' War for Independence) that, as Mike said of Nicholas II, a 10 year old kid of today could easily have fit in. By the way, the uniform time period was 1830's. Photos are deceiving, I never realized that Franz Josef or Nicholas II were that small

Hi,
Thanks to everone for their help.
Rick- The SM-EVK medal is indeed an early bronze issue.
I have to apologize for my less than wonderful images, but I have yet to master all today's convoluted technology.

Hi,
I recently purchased an NCO/OR bar with the topic title award in the late zinc version. The other medals on the bar look fine, but on inspection of the subject award I noticed a "flaw" (for lack of a better word). My photo is not the best, but the problem is that the first "1" in the date "1914" is missing it's bottom. This is my first award of this type, so I don't know if it's ok. Perhaps someone else has seen this before or have this award with said "flaw" or perhaps it's a fake?
Kind regards,
Sam

Hi,
Thanks for posting the photos and information. I really enjoy these "then and now" threads. I had no idea that anything from the Reich Chancellery had survived the war besides maybe the red marble used by the soviets in their war memorial.
Kind regards,
Sam
