    1. thanks for the additional information J?r?me and Paul. Can't find a word on the rim but I have the feeling it is not a 1668 original if I compare it with the other one from the museum.
    2. hello, thanks for the replies, it sure is usefull, I'm planning on buying it. France has many unofficial veteran orders indeed, any idea why? is it for recognising the ones that fought or where stationed somewhere, or perhaps just for the rank the one has within the organisation? kind regards, Roeland
    3. I'm quite exited to see them to if possible!
    4. you keep amazing me Carol I with your collection! also a very nice one which you are displaying Megan. I decided not to buy a St. Stephen order. The seller was offering a commander cross, I asked him if it was real gold, but received no reply on my question (already placed a bid just viewing the pictures). I was outbidded. Then the seller offered me one as well for my bid, as he had more of them. It also wasn't real gold but metal with a gold layer on it. I found it quite strange that he had multiple and just offered them to the other bidders as well so I decided not to buy it. thanks for all the information! I'll be looking for another good one. kind regards, Roeland
    5. very nice information Hendrik! I learnt something more again. sorry, I don't have other pictures from it as it isn't mine, it is being offered for sale with this picture.
    6. hello, I came across a medal and it looked very nice, but I have no clue what it is for. The seller states it is the medal: MERITE FRANCAIS OUTRE MER. I've tried to look it up on the internet but can't find any information or pictures, only the name showed up. It looks very interesting and I would like to buy it, who can help me with information? information about the sizes of the grades are also very welcome. any information welcome thank you kind regards, Roeland
    7. Hello Carol I, thank you for the information, I couldn't find any good information on the internet, so I'm glad to hear from the expert, it sure is a great help. And I also must say, you have got very nice medals in your collection, my compliments! thank you! kind regards, Roeland
    8. Hello Richard, thank you for your answer, it sure is a great help, I finally know what it is, and it sounds very interesting. I might go collect some masonic jewels, but I recon I should first have a good look around on what to look for. For example I think this looks interesting, but is there more to it then just as I read that it is for an assistant? is it special/does it have a story, or from a certain freemasonry group, what would be good prices for such items etc.? http://cgi.ebay.de/Freimaurer-Orden-Medail...1QQcmdZViewItem As I try to state with this example, I have no idea what would be good items and what not to buy, perhaps I should learn more about the history of freemasonry instead of just start buying on eBay, just like what I do now, collecting medals, you can't just start buying, not knowing what it is. kind regards, Roeland
    9. hello, thank you, I already though it was unofficial as I had never seen it in any book or site. kind regards, Roeland
    10. Hello, I came across this silver medal in the order of Leopold II and I'm wondering what the bird on the ribbon is, the seller stated it is an airforce emblem, meaning the receiver got it for good service in the airforce. is this true? thank you. kind regards, Roeland
    11. Hello gents, well I have a less intellectual question perhaps, but I'm always curious and want to learn more about military items/decorations therefore I couldn't resist asking the question. what are masonic items? I see it quite a lot here and on eBay, but still can't make a specific definition for it. it looks like items from a few century's ago, then again sometimes not, some have quite some decorative parts, others not, so what makes an item masonic? I've looked here but can't find a definition. Who can explain what a masonic item is? thank you. kind regards, Roeland
    12. Hello, can anybody help me with information on the Austro-Hungarian order of St. Stephan (K?niglich Ungarischer Orden des Heiligen Stephan) created in 1764 and disbanned in 1918. does anybody know the sizes of this order, what is the size of a normal knight medal, a commander and a grand cross, or are they all the same? any other information on the orde also very welcome! thank you. kind regards, Roeland
    13. hello Veteran, thank you for the information! I'll send a nice French letter and hope they will respond and help me. kind regards, Roeland
    14. ? know he is moving, it is also the reason that I'm waiting on the frame. Actually it probably isn't that bad for me if he moves to Belgium, because I live near the Belgian border, now I have to travel over 100 kilometers to go to the shop so I order most of it on his site, if he moves to Belgium it probably is closer to my city and up here there is a good public transport conection to belgium, which I didn't have when he was in Leiden. do you know to which city he is moving in Belgium?
    15. hello, I'll compare them when I receive the frame. and I did buy it from treasurehunt indeed, I'm a customer since he started on the internet(before he had a shop) and I'm always very satisfied about the items he offers, always quality and often special items. kind regards
    16. Hello, could anybody help me on this one, I would like to know more about Chef de bataillon Barto-Jos? Vitobello. I would like to know because I bought this medal/award in 2005 which he received on the 11th of march 2004. I have found information on the medal, but would like to know more about it's receiver, dat of birth, his carreer, other medals etc. thanks! Commandement de l'Enseignement Militaire Superieur Scientifique et Technique
    17. Thanks for helping, I appreciate it very much! I bought this frame with his medals and a picture, don't have it yet, I expect it in 1-1,5 weeks. Appart from not having it yet, I also haven't got a camera because I borrowed it to someone going on a holiday, so no better pictures at the moment. no frontbars visable on the ribbon of the commemorative 1914-1918 medal, but looking at the medals he got he was in service quite some time during the war. viewing the picture, it looks like he has a NCO rank emblem on his arm sleeve, which makes the Sergeant-Major rank possible. I guess it must be him as there are no other people with this name in the guldenboeken and the information seems quite the same.
    18. Hello, who can help me with information on a Belgian soldier of WW1. I would like to know more about Gerard Aime. He received the following medals: -croix de guerre with lion on the ribbon -commemorative medal of the 1914-1918 campaign -Yser medal -defence of Luik/Liege medal -victory medal -firecross (vuurkruis) -honorary medal for scouts, with star on the ribbon -military decoration -honorary medal of veterans FNC -commemorative medal of the 100 anniversary of national independance any information about this man is very welcome, his date of birth, death, where he lived, which battles he fought, dates of receiving medals etc.
    19. I have these 2 Belgian medals. they where awarded after the war. 1 medal is awarded in the name of the city:La Nivelles, to soldier: E.Barreau The second is also a comemorative medal for the 1st World War In my opinion both non official medals, but I might be wrong. Who can tell more about these medals or about the soldier it was awarded to?(perhaps he has more awards) thanks for any information/opinion. I don't have better pictures then these. ind regards, Roeland
    20. after receiving your message, I would like to appologise if I gave any reason for misinterpertation, it wasn't meant as a hostile post.
    21. Hello Jan, sorry if it seems there is an argue or affair between us, in my opinion there is not, I posted the medals here for identification, since it can't be identified here on GMIC, I just asked Jacky again. However if you still think this topic is about fighting an argue between us, you can delete the entire topic.
    22. jacky, could you please find out who the awards are from, I bought these a year ago with the promiss I would get the name soon, it is now more then a year ago, I think I have the right to know, escpecially for the price I paid for them. thank you.
    23. thank you for the information, so if I'm correct it is this: in 1900 it was created with this monogram as an award in Congo, in 1908 it was also adapted in the belgian order system and the monogram became a lion instead of a shield?
