Thanks! I appreciate the help, as I've never done Soviet or Russian anything, so this is very different for me and I know nothing about Soviet medals, either! Thanks for being so helpful! Oh, one more thing . . . what is the Russian name of the "For Bravery" medal? Or is that the name? Addition --- I just ran that last link I posted through Google Translate . . . does it say that he was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War, 1st Class?

Thank you so much! I'm looking now . . . just loaded the Google Translate add-on to my internet browser. Thanks for this . . . very interesting! What a "royal" sounding name he has! Actually, Mom's step father's family was from the Ukraine. Is the "Bravery Medal" a particular medal or just meaning a bravery award? IS this the same veteran (simply since his birth year is also listed as 1911)? http://podvignaroda.ru/?#id=1519347543&tab=navDetailManUbil

I've seen pictures of this medal, and so far can't find out about what it actually is. I am posting it here in the British board, but if there is a better board, feel free to move it! Commemorating the Pawnticket network, I am wondering if this was an association medal or an unofficial or how did someone get this medal? Also . . . seen it with two different ribbons - Perhaps one colour is French and one British? Or two different levels? The back is flat and has nothing on it. At least, the pictures of the ones I've seen. Any information would be of interest, actually. I have had no success trying to research this so far!

Hi! A new French medal on my looking-for list is one I only just found out about. Actually saw it in a grouping and it was awarded to an SOE translator who worked in Algiers during WWII. So . . . I am wanting to find one that is from the era of the end of WWII - later 1940s era. Anyone able to tell what era this one is, or give me some pointers on how to tell era/age on this particular medal? Thanks in advance!

This is my sole Soviet medal, and I really don't know much about them at all. I was sent this from someone in the Czech Republic and it came with this card. Would all campaign medals like this have been issued with a card like this? Is it something that states who was awarded it? Here is a picture showing the back:

I think this is my last Cuban item . . . I am assuming that this is a uniform button since it is brass, has a shank, and has the Seal of Cuba on the front. Would love to find out if this is indeed a uniform button and what era it might be from? Thanks!

Oh, that's interesting . . . For civilians in a battle?

Two unknown Cuban badges - Help with era what they are?
hirmiestelio replied to hirmiestelio's topic in Republic of Cuba
Thank you so very much! I was thinking the light weight one was going to be a USSR made one, since it seems like a Soviet style. I couldn't be happier about the smaller one, as I was really hoping it was older (pre-Castro)! My Dad was born in Cuba, and his family escaped Castro in the early 1960s. So, I really wanted something Pre-Castro, and this is amazing! Can't thank you enough! -
Thanks! That's so interesting! I was wondering if it might be for a sash or something, because of the bar on the back! Appreciate the info!

By the arms on the front, I think this is Franco era. However, I am wondering what this is actually for and where it is worn? Is it a hat badge or would it go on a belt or sash or something? This feel like brass, but again . . . not sure! Thanks for any help!

Hi! I have these two Cuban badges, and know nothing about what they are or when they are from, other than that they have the seal of Cuba, so I assume they are Cuban. The larger one on the left is very light weight. The brassier one on the right is heavier and I'd assume older. But, again . . . I don't know anything about these! Would appreciate any thoughts on era and what they actually are. Thanks!

Thanks to all of you! This is fabulous! I will definitely pull out my Resistance collection and photograph it to post! I just discovered the Medaille de la Reconnaissance francaise when viewing a ribbon rack that belonged to an SOE Translator who helped train the French and Corsican Resistance agents. So . . .another for my want list before framing! Thanks for the help! I'll make a note to look for the Wound medal with the gold back where the star doesn't protrude!

Ah! They were unofficial, then? I have seen that mentioned, but it is hard not being able to speak French, as most things on this medal are French and the translators work, but not everything makes sense when reading the translation! So, if they are unofficial - who awarded them? I've never seen the red star on a bar before, and that is very interesting. Now I'm going to have to really pay attention. My collecting aim . . . sort of hard to describe, but here it goes: French Resistance is my passion. One of my favorite history topics to read about and my favorite WWII area of interest! So . . . I decided many years ago that I wanted a French Resistance medal. I got one after a bit. I then decided on adding a few more, which I would then frame all together. I decided I'd collect medals that someone who was in the resistance could have or would have had/been awarded. I have quite a few now . . . some gallantry, some service, some association medals. I also have a couple of badges and an armband that was worn in the Liberation of Paris. Well, researching for collecting things, I found the Wound medal and it has been in my mind with some question marks ever since! So, that is my interest! Now it is sort of an "old friend", you might say, because I've wondered about it so many years!

Thank you so much! I wondered about the different colour bands.
-
Thank you so much for the pictures showing the different types! I've seen pictures of many, but never actually counted how many I'd seen before. The two along the bottom that you show . . . are these WWI or WWII era? I'm particularly wanting one for the 1940-48 era.
-
Thank you so much! Is there a meaning to the different colour bands? Also, any thoughts on era? Thanks for the help!

Had these for a while and absolutely no clue about them. Was told they are both Cuban. This has raised a few questions and so far I haven't been able to find out much about them . . . Are they Cuban? Also, idea on era? They aren't marked as far as I can see, except the one has an "8" in the center of the inside. Thanks in advance for any thoughts! Elizabeth (Pictures of the inside coming . . . ) Inside of one: (One more pic coming . . . ) Inside of the second . . .

OH, thanks! That's very interesting, appreciate the link. So they are officially made but never actually used?

Have this Cuban badge, but really don't know anything about it! Someone said they thought it may be a Guards badge, but not sure. Would so appreciate any thoughts on what it is exactly and what era it may be! Thanks! Elizabeth

Hi! I didn't find an introduction board, and I just joined . . . so I'm just going to dive in here with my first question! The French Wound medal . . . I've seen multiple versions online and some bits of info here and there . . . However, I am rather confused with detail. Is this actually official? Also, what are the different styles and do they mean different things or just change over time? Also, what exactly are you awarded this for? Thanks for any help! Elizabeth
