Instituted in terms of a Warrant signed by President P R Mphephu on 8 February 1985. The idea of using a young baobab tree on the obverse was suggested by President Mphephu himself. Venda National Force Distinguished Service Medal (SOO) Awarded only to Officers of the General Staff of the Venda National Force who distinguished themselves through meritorious service promoting the efficiency of the Venda National Force and who contributed actively to the security of the Republic of Venda.     19. Bophuthatswana Police Decoration for Distinguished Service (TK) Awarded in recognition of distinguished service to the Bophuthatswana Police. Rule 3 of the Schedule which was published with the Warrant, determined, inter alia, that “As a special distinction the decoration may also be awarded in “gold” Rule 5 authorised the use of the post-nominal letters TK (being the abbreviation of “Tirelo e e kgethegileng” which means “Service with distinction”. The first award in gold was made to the State President of Bophuthatswana Kgosi Dr L M Mangope, and the first award in silver to the Deputy Minister of Police and Prisons, Hon.     23. A late friend of mine, who was awarded the South African Police Cross for Bravery (PCF) What made his story more special is, that his dog saved his life on another occassion and was awarded the Police Good Service Medal (1951) for Bravery
