    1. Venda Police Medal for Loyal Service “Awarded to a member of the Venda Police ... who had served ... for a period of service of not less than twenty years ... [and] has displayed an irreproachable character and exemplary conduct”. Instituted with effect from 1 April 1985 in terms of a Warrant signed by President F N Ravele on 13 July 1988. The obverse and the ribbon is the same as that of the former Venda National Force 20 year Long Service Medal, but with superior execution. The rim, charges and suspender are polished and the rest of the medal is frosted. General Notice No. 130 in the Republic of Venda Government Gazette, Vol. 16, No. 153 dated 9 December 1988.     2. Venda Police Star for Merit Awarded to any person who: (1) On or at any time subsequent to the 13th day of September 1979 was a member of the Venda National Force, established under section 2 of the repealed Venda National Force Act 1979 (Act 11 of 1979), and who subsequent to the 1st day of April 1985 is or was a member of the Venda Police, established under section 2 of the Venda Police Act 1985 (Act 4 of 1985), and who: (a) In the execution of his functions as described in the said Act of the regulations promulgated in terms thereof, as such a member has, on or after the aforementioned dates, rendered services of a particularly meritorious or exemplary nature; or (b) as such a member has, for a period not less than 30 years, which need not be continuous displayed an irreproachable character and exemplary conduct. (2) Has rendered services of a particularly meritorious nature to the Venda Police. Instituted with effect from 1 April 1985 in terms of a Warrant signed by President F N Ravele on 13 July 1988. The ribbon is the same as that of the former Venda National Force 30 year Long Service Medal. The elephant’s Head is likewise derived from that medal.     3. Venda Police Establishment Medal Instituted for award to persons who on 1 April 1985, the date of the establishment of the Venda Police, rendered Police functions to the Force, or any person who has rendered services towards the establishment of the Venda Police. Instituted with effect from 1 April 1985 in terms of a Warrant signed by President F N Ravele on 13 July 1988. General Notice No. 130 in the Republic of Venda Government Gazette, Vol. 16, No. 153 dated 9 December 1988.
    4. Venda Police Star for Outstanding Service (SOE) (1) Awarded to a member of the Venda Police. (a) in the execution of his duties as described in the said Act or the regulations promulgated in terms thereof or in protecting or saving or endeavouring to protect or to save life or property has displayed particular bravery, exceptional ingenuity, skill or perseverance; or (b) in the execution of his duties has rendered outstanding service to members of a dynasty or Heads of State or Government; or (c) has distinguished himself through outstanding resourcefulness, leadership, sense of responsibility and setting a personal example to any branch of the Police. (2) To a person, not being a member of the Venda Police, who has rendered exceptional service in promoting the efficiency of the Police. Instituted with effect from 1 April 1985 in terms of a Warrant signed by President P R Mphephu on 13 July 1985. The ribbon is the same as that of the former Venda National Force Outstanding Service Medal.     5. Venda Police Distinguished Service Decoration (SOO) Awarded only to Officers of the General Staff of the Venda Police who has distinguished himself by meritorious service promoting the efficiency of the Venda Police and who has contributed actively in preserving the security of the Republic of Venda. Instituted with effect from 1 April 1985 in terms of a Warrant signed by President F N Ravele on 13 July 1988. This obverse and ribbon are the same as those of the former Venda National Force Distinguished Service Medal, but with superior execution.     6. Venda Police Gallantry Cross (Silver) (PCF) Instituted to recognize signal acts of valour (less meritorious than for the Cross in Gold) by members of the Venda Police who, in the discharge of their functions or in protecting or saving property or life, have lost or genuinely imperiled their lives. Instituted with effect from 1 April 1985 in terms of a Warrant signed by President F N Ravele on 13 July 1988. This decoration and ribbon are the same as those of the Venda National Force Gallantry Cross (Silver). General Notice No. 130 in the Republic of Venda Government Gazette, Vol. 16, No. 153 dated 9 December 1988.
    7.     8. Hi Marco, The Gallantry Crosses for the Venda National Force and Venda Police stays 100% the same, but the rest changed. All the Gallantry Crosses for the VNF, VP, VDF and VPS were the same on the reverse, showing the Venda COA. Will post the two pictures requested later Regards Archie

South African Police Service Canine and Equine Star for Bravery (2004) To be awarded to SAPS dogs and horses for bravery in dangerous circumstances in the line of duty or in protecting or saving life or property. A 9-sided silver-gilt medal depicting the heads of a German Shepherd dog and a horse on a silver nonagon on an 8-pointed star on a laurel wreath (obverse).
    11. South African Police Service Ten Year Loyal Service Medal (2004) For 10 years irreproachable service and exemplary conduct. A 9-sided bronze medal, displaying the secretary-bird crest of the national coat of arms over two sprays of laurel leaves (obverse).
    12. South African Police Service Twenty Year Loyal Service Medal (2004) For 20 years irreproachable service and exemplary conduct.
    13. South African Police Service Thirty Year Loyal Service Medal (2004) For 30 years irreproachable service and exemplary conduct. A 9-sided silver medal displaying an aloe plant on a blue cartouche on an 8-pointed star on a laurel wreath (obverse). Here is the approved medal, as well as the first sample.
    14. South African Police Service Forty Year Loyal Service Medal (2004) For 40 years irreproachable service and exemplary conduct. An octagonal gold medal displaying the SAPS badge on a blue roundel on a 4-pointed star on a laurel wreath (obverse).
    15. South African Police Service Ten Year Anniversary Commemoration Medal Awarded to SAPS members and civilian employees to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the formation of the SAPS. A bronze 10-sided medal displaying the SA coat of arms, crossed flags, and "1995-2005" (obverse) and the SAPS emblem and "South African Police Ten Year Commemoration Medal" (reverse). The first 1000 were manufactured with a slightly different ribbon, than the rest. The top suspender have an opening in the middle, as can be seen on the first 3 pictures. A 100 of each were handed out to the 9 provinces with the other 100 to the SAPS HQ. They were awarded to the top 100 officers in each province and SAPS HQ. I was fortunate to get one myself. The first 1000 were a bit smaller than the rest

South African Police Service Amalgamation Medal (1995) This medal was instituted in commemoration of the foundation of the South African Police Service, which incorporated the South African Police and Police Forces of homeland states (i.e. Ciskei, Transkei, etc). It was conferred upon all members of the South African Police Service who were serving on October 15, 1995. Only a limited amount with the wording Amalgamation Medal on the reverse, were manufactured. The majority have the wording Reconciliation and Amalgamation Medal.

SAPS Commendation Medal (2004) Awarded for (i) particularly meritorious or exemplary service, or outstanding resourcefulness and sense of duty and example or (ii) risk of life in protecting or saving life or property in dangerous circumstances.
