    1. Joined this group to find some information on a Luftwaffe Paratrooper badge. Attached are photos of the badge. This badge belonged to my deceased father-in-law. He collected odds and ends over the years. Most items not worth noting. Although, I thought I had thought went through everything, my wife stumbled across this badge. He served in the USA Army in the late 50's early 60's and had a stint in Germany. I wish he were around to get the story of where got the badge. What I can glean, this was made by F.W. Assmann & Sohne. The makers mark looks to be the 1938 Assmann variant. Can anyone give me an information on the badge and the rarity of the mark? Is this a desirable piece? The medal is approximately 42.5mm (1.67in) wide x 53.3mm (2.10in) tall. The weight is 34.87g (1.23oz). From my unsophisticated eye, the medal looks to be in excellent condition.
