    1. How does the Aussie award differ from the Brit award?

Do the Brits give it the same status?

      Best

      Chris

As far as I'm aware, the Australian who was awarded the "new" VC is not recognised by the British VC association. They still have only 96 Ozzy winners mentioned.

The new VC is identical in every respect except for the fact that is now an Australian only affair. The Ozzy VC also supersedes the Imperial VC.

    2. Hello Gentlemen

I've purchased this little mini group comprising of a DSM and LSGC to a certain William Tanner (37037). He was a Chief Engine Room Artificer when he recieved the DSM.

I checked with the London Gazette and to my inexperience at research on groups found that it covers only Army Gallantry medals. Is there a similar website for the RN? How would I go about researching this chap?

I don't ask for anyone to do all the "leg work" for me, just a little help on where to begin.

      Thanks

    3. Hello Gentleman,

Another medal I managed to pick up this week is this beautiful Waterloo medal. This one with the early brass ring. Named to James Town of the 15th King's Hussars (light cavalry I believe). Does anybody have the regimental history of this units action during the battle?

I hope this will be a que for other members to post theirs! I think these medals were wonderfully crafted.

    4. Hello Gentleman.

Been quite a busy week this week, managed to pick up this lovely little local group to a Pvt George Shore who lived in Market Deeping (right next to me) off his Grandson. He served in the 9th Lancers throughout the campaign then went home, retired, then joined the reserves.

I'm not a regular member here so I thought I might aswell introduce myself with a few items. ;)

    5. Thank you Tom for your kind words. Indeed, for some reasons I felt I had to reduce my posts on the other Forum. Anyway, I won?t say more as I don?t want to use this Forum here as a ?Speaker?s Corner?. I simply hope that my humble contribution to this ?Gentlemans Forum? will be more serene.

To answer your question : yes, I have already seen such anachronisms concerning the stamps. I think the Depot not always rigidly adapted the dates. Beside this, everybody sometimes makes mistakes, even in the German Army ! I think, the best you could do is to start a new thread and post some pictures of your cap for comments ?

      Best,

      Hello Mark

I would love to, as soon as I become a full member I will post it here. I cant really post clear pics under 60k pretty darn annoying.

    6. I have the Red Party book and his military citations as well as his decorations and badges. He was awarded the SS Honour ring but unfortunatly this never came. He also had the candle stick.

      Hello War Lord,

This is a beautiful set, I have seen the picture of that certain Allgemeine member before somewhere... It is a very poignant picture for to me he looks like an Englishman! Fantastic....

      Kurt,

Love your set, it is equally beautiful. Not a collector of these sorts of badges at all but the pair are different sizes... I would assume for different usage? Is this correct?

Thanks you both for sharing love.gif
