    1. I guess it will continue to be a mystery.

      Mike

Mike, it may be a dembel as well.

If I be lucky enough, I will try to find and show the dembel navy buckle I had for a time, with appliable anchor-and-star emblem, of a very good quality. Actually, when a soldier have nothing to do, he makes beautiful dembel things :) as mad as pretty.

    2. I think this to be an original, but 50's era buckle. Like I said, I do not know much about it other than it was likey an artillery cadet uniform item. I think if you could hold it an see the natural verdigris and deep patina you would agree. Such is not easily or convincingly faked.

      Mike

Mike, the main important thing is that the cadets of artillery had worn regular buckles with only star after 45-46.

      this is why odds arose.

    3. It seems very nice. Model of after 1955? I have never seen one for sale.

Yes, they are both with VVS after 55, I only had made VVS basing on the photo I posted, and artie was a pure dembel with a wooden inserts in the collar tabs and shoulderboards (can you imagine this dumbass making wooden shoulderboards? I can)

The artie was repaired alot - shoulderboards and collar tabs were repaired, original wool saved but wooden inserts in collar tabs were replaced; I also replaced the handmade shoulderboards with regular, retaining the original emblems, buttons and golden straps.

    4. I believe that this is the case because he is the rank of Private.

The man in your photo is a Master Sergeant .

      yes, I forgot about it.

what I have always being finding - sergeants

I have two - the same kit as at the photo posted by me and the artillery senior sergeant - black branch colour and artie emblems.

      I'll show it tomorrow.

    5. Wow.

Never seen one of those before!

I am afraid it's not original, however, I do not know.

I have seen the dembel buckles of similar or even higher quality.

If you look at the belt attachment loops, the similar config can be found at the 50-60 era buckles.

ww2 buckles usually have attachment loops made of round wire, often even two loops separately.

This one has the rounded corners, typical 50-60 era attachment loops and applied emblem.

However, I must admit, that the emblem is very well done.

    6. Livery?

You mean - colour scheme and number?

01 was a fire fighter's telephone number in SU, like 911. Now it is a fire - paramedic - police united telephone number, The red colour with white stripes is a traditional firefighting.

This car depicts probably the inspection car.

The traditional colours of soviet official service autos are the following:

red colour and white stripe - fire fighting,

white and red stripe - medic,

yellow and blue stripe - police,

blue and white stripe - post offices,

yellow and red stripe - technical support of a living area infrastructure (water communications, gaz pipelines, etc),

black - official cars of authorities.

    7. I think it was not very successful try to restore the medal.

I have seen few medals in different places and in ifferent circumstances, which were corroded, due to the bad conditions of their storage.

For example, it may be lost somewhere in the village near the house, and then found and cleaned and restored by this way.

It is probably not a fake.

Or, someone tried to get trained to make fake medals and started with this one.

You need to know what metal it is made of.

If it's iron or similar hard-melting alloy, then it's not a fake. If it's made of tin or similar soft and easy-melting alloy, then it's fake.

      Anyway, it's a garbage.

    8. as a reserve leutenant of justice I thank you and also congratulate you with this day.

BTW, in Russia this day was yesterday.

And a little comment - nowadays this celebration is called The Day of Defender of Fatherland, it was renamed in 2003 and also in 2003 it was stated as a non-working day. (Made by Putin) ©

Untill 2003 it was named The Day Of Soviet Army, Airforces and Fleet, and was usual working day.

Initially we used to think that the 23 february was the day when the Red Army was established oficially.

But this is a very odd point of view, and historians still argue.

I am not into these argues and just glad to have a day-off work.

    9. Very nice Takc!

Stoo, If I were you, I'd better had this for my son, not that weak bright toy helmet :)

And then my son could happily work in mines with a really protective helmet like this.

Because if he works in a mine with that greeny softy helmet, how can he be sure that his head is protected?

I also thought about using of a steel helmet in this purpose, but it has no lamp holding device. It is unconvenient to work in a mine without the lamp, agree?

      :speechless1:

      :P

    10. Hi Pete!

      glad to see you again.

The helmet looks ok and correct.

But I myself do not like the following:

      1. ersatz-leather lining has no specific traces of wear.

      2. the liner band and holders are not painted. Usually they are painted in the same color with the helmet shell.

      3. at the stamp, the letter, indicating the word "year", does remind me english "r" more than russian g (г)

Minus is also that the star is almost gone.

I think the price is high. for this helmet I would pay not more than 300 dollars, I think.

Also, Pete, ask the seller, what happens if he deforms the band by curving it. If it is made of correct spring metal, it will return it's round form. If no and it stays curved, the band is probably fake.

    11. The helmet is a belgian one, and the star applied is fake, but this done to reproduce the soviet helmet, which soviet army used untill 1936 when a new model was adopted.

Initially imperial russian army used a number of helmets, purchased in France, differing from french helmets by khaki colour and double-headed eagle emblem on the front side. Later they were re-captured and issued to soviet troops. At those times, they produced a thin steel or thin brass big red-enameled star emblem for helmets. Nowadays the Adrian M15 helmets both with eagle or with a star are a huge rarity, and completely unable to find, especially the adrian helmet red star. I know that Denis R has one original star, and maybe he will be kind to show it to us someday.

Untill I am not so rich, I hold this mixed up helmet. Repro star is about 30 dollars now, and belgian helmet was a gift from a friend.

The second type of helmets russian army used was Sohlberg M17, purchased at Solberg factory, a so called Russian M17 helmet.
