    1. Some interesting militaria on display too, some of it sadly is in bright daylight, which will eventually fade the paperwork to nothing, and it won't do the

cloth stuff much good either, I did mention this to one of the curators while I was there, but not sure if the message sank in or not.

I love that bullion 5th AAF patch !

      Best wishes

    2. And being ex Corps of Signals, some memories of my time with these HF and VHF sets, the vehicle mounted VHF 524 set, the iconic AN/PRC 25 set

and its big brother, the AN/PRC 77, along with its vehicle mount as well.

On the HF range, one of my old favourites, The GRC 106 set, which comprised the Radio RT-622 GRC and the

      Amplifier. Radio Frequencey AM-2249/GRC 106.

There is also a great pre and post WW2 selection of other radios too.

    3. Hi all,

We have just returned from a visit to South Australia, basically to catch up with our son and his family, as they have just added another

small member of the clan into the world, but while there, I took the opportunity to visit a nice little military vehicle museum, situated in

the Adelaide suburb of Edinborough. The vehicles are mainly British/Commonwealth with a smattering of US as well.

      Hope you like the pix...

    6. What means EM tunic?

EM is a US term for Enlisted Man,

An enlisted rank (also known as an enlisted grade or enlisted rate) is, in most militaries, any rank below that of a commissioned officer or warrant officer. The term can also be inclusive of non-commissioned officers. In most cases, enlisted service personnel perform jobs specific to their own occupational specialty, as opposed to the more generalized command responsibilities of commissioned officers.

      British Armed Forces

In the British Armed Forces and the armed force of other Commonwealth countries (except Canada), the equivalent term in respect of armies and air forces is Other Rank (or OR for short), while navies use the term rating.

      Canadian Forces

In the Canadian Forces, the term non-commissioned member (NCM) is used.

      North Atlantic Treaty Organization

In the "standard rank scale" maintained by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, non-commissioned ranks are coded OR1–OR9 (bottom to top), OR being an abbreviation for Other Ranks.

      United States Armed Forces

In the United States Air Force, this job specialty is known as an Air Force Specialty Code, in the United States Army and United States Marine Corps, a Military Occupational Specialty, and in the United States Navy and United States Coast Guard, a naval rating.

    7. Mervyn,

You would be entitled to the National Service Medal, and the Australian Defence Medal I think. You should apply for them,

they will give you a nice little reminder of your time here in Oz way back when....

      Cheers

      Bob

Very interesting - I thought the Defence Force was soon after the War but had forgotten dates. I was never a Regular - I did my

National Service in the Sydney Light Anti-aircraft regt. - 40mm Bofors. When I returned from Sth. Africa in 1960 I joined the CMF

in the Queensland Regt.. I didn't do much with them as I was off to Thailand for 3 1/2 years. Strangely, I'm told that I'm probably

entitled to two medals - Aust. was one of the few Countries to allow them for NS. I wouldn't have the 'cheek' to even ask about them. Mervyn
