      I have attached here 2 pictures of Col Joseph D'Arcy (Royal Horse Artillery and RA) who was awarded the Order of The Lion and Sun (second class) in 1815 by the Shah of Persia as a result of his work training the Persian army. He was granted Royal consent to wear the order in 1818. We have drawing of the order and a portrait of him wearing it (This portrait is now in the V&A). I have not seen any original orders that look the same - sadly this has long ago left the family. He was also awarded a sword by the Shah after helping defat the Russians at Sultanabad 1808. If anyone has a picture of the order in the form shown below - i would love to see it.
