nice order! I too find curious that, with this particular order, the lower the class, the less the awarded number, something that goes against common sense.

I think it's difficult to establish a price for the star itself, without the necklace, I've never seen it sold separately.

I haven't found this order in previous threads, I might have to search better. Anyway, here's my Order of the Yugoslav flag with Sash, 1st of 5 classes, it was founded on 26 November 1947.

It was mostly awarded to foreigners (only 340 pieces out of 1420 were awarded to Yugoslav citizens), for merits in the development of cooperation and friendly relations between the SFRY and other countries, and to Yugoslav citizens for the development of the counsciousness of citizens in the struggle for the country's indipendence.

More informations and comments are welcome, let's revitalize this beautiful section of the forum.

we know that all Yu medals, even the most common (military merit, virtues, labour...), were awarded in case. I would be very surprised to know that this was the only one without... That's why I love socialist countries: there are always new things to find out!

I've never seen one either. I think the case doesn't exist at all. I've seen only examples in (blank) paper packets, but I'm not sure if these packets were originally designed for these medals. The "generic" Yugo packets can be found with late medals and bravery orders.

I arrive with huge delay, but this is the first time I see another Order of Labour as mine... Well, compared to wlodzimierz's, mine looks high numbered , but nonetheless...

this time is a II class, numbered 656, same screw.

about the use of different characters, unfortunatelly I was born too late to remember anything from the old SFRJ, it was just a personal supposition, being that Serbian supremacy and imposition over other federal countries was one of the favourite points used by Slovenes and Croats just before independece (I'm not looking for a political discussion, I'm just interested in facts). I'm aware that both alphabets were equally in use, but I can understand how the use of one or another could have been seen as a political matter, or used as a pretext. That's why I asked if this could have been the case... But thanks again for clarifying!

I need your help.

We all know the Distinguished marksman medal, it's very common and I think there has never been much of a talking about it. But I just noticed something that caught my attention and I hope you will be able to explain me better: I have two of these medals, and noticed that they have different front and reverse inscriptions.

One has the Serbian cyrillic inscription engraved on the front, and the Latin one on the obverse. The second one is exactly the opposite:

You can be sure that the two medals are just not the same, with the suspender mounted on different sides, because the machine gun and the cannon under the wreath are in the same position on both (the cannon left, the machine gun right). Do you know perhaps if this change occured at some time in the '50s/'60s (I assume it was more politically correct to use Latin characters on the front side in multicultural Federal Yu), or did the two version coexist? Was the manufacturer the same (the rings for suspension slightly differ...)?

Thank you Gordon, I thought the Russian badge would have replaced the German one! When you say next to the collar you mean above the right pocket, as on any East German uniform? And where would exactly the Soviet academy badge go then?

Hi Paul,

this is the military university graduation badge. Till 1957 there were shields with names and art of education of the academy on the badge. After that shields were dropped. The badge is for all university subjects equal.

So you need this style of badge. For the 70?s you need one without shield.

These badges exist in silver (expensive) and cheap non silver. Some collectors belief, that all non silver badges are fakes.

Attached is a medical badge from the navy branch, and one without shield.

These are for graduates of civilian institutions, not military. The first badge is for a medical university graduate but the second is for a graduate from a technical institute, not university level.

So, as far as I understand, the second one is not good at all, the first one would fit but it's an early version for me, and above all they're both civilian.

I'm new to this section of the forum, and new to Soviet badges too... But I've got a question, and you are those who can help me.

It's simple, and it could look like a game: I have an East German medical officer jacket, and I would like to complete it with the right badges. Now, the officer I'm thinking of graduated in a USSR military medical academy, somewhere around 1975... So i would need a medical academy badge to put on his jacket, but I'm not sure which one would be correct, considering the years I'm talking about.

I found a few of these badges on eBay, and I'll post a couple of pics, but I'm not sure which one would be the best, if they're correct at all...

This is described as an early '50s-'60s one:

Were these only from a particular school or not? Were there other badges of these kind that would work better for my purpose?

No, why do you say that? The document is ok! It's issued by the Udruzenje bivsih jugoslovenskih dobrovoljaca spanske republikanske vojske - Organisation of the Yugoslavian ex-volunteers in the Spanish repubblican army. Which means it was a Yugoslavian organisation, not a Spanish one. These kind of special terms were common in socialist countries.

I have never seen this one! It's on ebay at the moment, starting price: 199$, described as EXTREMELY RARE YUGOSLAVIAN MEDAL FOR FIGHTER IN SPANISH CIVIL WAR IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. On the reverse, engraved, the name of the fighter.

I guess it's not a medal exclusively for volunteers of Yugoslav nationality, but it's quite curious, because under the name it says Municipality of the city of Zagreb - 30. X 1966. Who awarded than these medals? Anybody has got more informations?
