Can you please post a scan of the cover (front and back).

Ssch36 helmets are faked??? Do you mean the whole thing or just the liners?
Belaruski,
I mean the whole thing; and they have been faked for the best part of the past 2~3+ years, if not longer

GENUINELY dated wartime helmets are exceptionally scarce. i think the rule with these is to think 'how much would I pay for one that may be war time?'
If in doubt buy a Ssch 36, a beautiful helmet and guaranteed wartime regardless of ink stamps!
Belaruski,
No so guaranteed anymore, since these are now faked very convincingly.

Yes, it is rare but like You said, that is a lot of money. I would rather have 10 ordinary orders than one rare variation. But then I'm not a pronounced variation collector. I guess I don't know the thrill it gives to find one of these rare variations. It sure is nice but not that nice!
Erik
Erik,
The buyer is one of the leading researcher and collector in the field of Soviet screwback orders. I would tend to think that he knows what he is doing

I am looking for original cases for my orders. How difficult are these to find?
Paul
Paul,
What time-frame?
Generally speaking, the standard red boxes should not be that difficult to find, with some variation due to period; now, regarding the velvet insert, I have only seen one offered for sale over the past 5 years...
If you are after a hero box (HSL or HSU), the problem will be altogether different

Hi Mike.
They are still in business at Palais Royal. I believe, as mentioned by Paul, this is a box for a non-french award. No french award as far as I know has such a shape. A British one ?
Cheers.
Ch.
Could be Russian Imperial...

Erik,
This is one of the rarest variations of the OPW 2nd class. Still, that is a lot of money

And here is the backside of the badge.
Hundtorget,
When you want opinions about genuineness, show the item, not the screwplate

...Apparently there is a direct physical connection between crime and stupidity.
Good, I hope they keep it that way for a long time to come.

thats mad!! i was going to start my own thread on my Belgrade medal!so what do you guys think?
Paddy,
I don't like it either. It has the strangest pebbling on the front that I have ever seen. some letters and the '2' are off on the back. Overall, quite a nice fake.

Thanks, Marc. My "gut" had told me bad, but want to learn just why. I know we run the risk of educating the fakers, but sometimes, in the interest of educating the unwashed masses (like me), we may need to test or cross that line?
Ed,
Believe me, the fakers have not waited for us to explain how to spot the fakes to improve their "art".

Here is Belgrade medal for your collective wise consideration. All comments welcomed, especially if supported by reasons.
Apparently polished, with polish residue?
Ed,
I believe that this medal is no good.
. Obverse: shape of the letters (especially 'О', 'Б' and 'Ж'), various small details in the wreath (especially shape of leaves), skinny star
. Reverse: wrong letters and digits (especially '2', '4', 'К', 'Я'), skinny star
. Ring solder not up to par, although the mint is known to have put some less than perfect ones in circulation...

...Nothing that says WHO got it or WHY...
Rick,
It actually says that it was awarded to Andreev, Vassil Ivanovich

That is one heck of a set Dave! I am still in love with that Marshal's tunic!
Here is my only visual contribution...
Red is for minor wounds, right?
Paul,
Red stripe: Heavy wound
Yellow stripe: Light wound
and unofficially, Blue stripe: concussion

Hello,
could be Alexander Marinesko who torpedoed Gustloff and Steuben with S-13. Hitler was not amused and so M. was his personal Enemy
Regards
Frank
That is not him.
OK, let's start throwing some clues around. He became H's personal enemy rightfrom the very first days of the war.

Guys,
Talking about fakes, I was told by a reliable source that these (and a few other scarce ones) are being faked. Has anybody already encountered such fakes, or knows anything about their characteristics?
Marc

Especially if you happen to be married to them?
Nope, too dangerous! They may start thinking that there could be better use for that money

According to Colonel-General G. F. Krivosheev's "Soviet Casualties and Combat Losses in the Twentieth Century,"
1,226 officers, 1,553 NCOs, and 1,200 privates were wounded "7 or more times" in the GPW.
here is my closest runner up--
Guards Armor Colonel I. M. Dovgy was wounded SIX times
2 being severely and 4 times lightly.
Again citing General Krovosheev's statistics:
2,496 officers, 3,395 NCOs, and 3,234 privates were wounded 6 times in the GPW.
By contrast, a total of 1,480,324 Soviet military personnel were wounded just once.
Rick,
Even Marshals of the Soviet Union sometimes had bad luck

Wlodzimierz,
How come there are 3 mintmarks? Is it supposed to be made of silver?
