I agree with seb16trs. Sources like the Mondvor site, or at least their classifications, are, with the help of a dictionary, understandable for people who don't speak Russian. You can turn to the grossly outdated "Red Bible" instead, but I wouldn't buy it for more that $95. It by far isn't as stunning as it was 11 years ago, so why pay twice the price for it today?
+1

Yeepers!
has it been 11 years already?
Yup...

If anyone is looking for a "decent" priced Red Bible (decent in the sense of what these have been going for) on e-bay here:
http://cgi.ebay.ca/MCDANIEL-GUIDE-BOOK-B-T...1QQcmdZViewItem
$179.00 BUY IT NOW. And from someone in the USA.
Darrell,
Personally, I would not rush to buy this book, especially at that price
It was published over 11 years ago, and by now is, IMHO, grossly outdated.

So how do we explain this? What do we think it is?
IMHO, it is quite simply a replica star on which someone struck some SN. Over the years lying around and being handled, it got some wear.

Presented to the French Communist Party (PCF) ?
Ch.
And to this day, no doubt, treasured Place du Colonel Fabien
Your turn, Christophe!

Interesting indeed - but as Rick asked - how does a 'wearer's copy' get so worn down in so little time as award and death dates are not so far away!
The mind boggles.........
Jim
Jim,
That is, for one, because the wearer never wore this one...

Has this gift been presented to Fran?ois Mitterrand ?
If yes, it should be located in the Mitterrand museum in Jarnac (place where he was born).
Ch.
Christophe,
You already suggested Fran?ois Mitterand earlier; had he been the recipient, you'd already won this round...

Hi Marc,
Would it be a chess game having being owned by Lenin, offered to Fran?ois Mitterrand by Mikhail Gorbachev ?
Cheers.
Ch.
Christophe,
You are definitely on the right track here. It is indeed Lenin's chess board. Now, we need to find the actual recipient of this wunderbar gift

Doc,
Nice one
I just don't understand your reference to the AirForce; this is a straight Army dagger. The Airforce one has a different engraving on the scabbard.

Interesting pic from the main museum in Tirana. A wall of pics had has subtitle "ex important functionaries of the Albanian Communist Party and Albanian State sentenced and killed by Enver Hoxha regime"
Bob,
That is an almost carbon copy of the Soviet M45 "Parad Pobedy" uniform.

Hi to all,
It's very calm, here . Marc, can you provide more hints or reply to RedMaestro ?
Cheers.
Ch.
OK guys, some hints:
. We are indeed talking about chess
. The owner of the chess artifact was a PROMINENT (note the emphasis) Soviet, but not as a chess player

Thanks Guys!!! I will let him know that I'm not interested and that he spent $225 on lemons. I had my doubts about these but needed you opinions. Thanks again!!!
Doc
Doc,
I am a bit late, but nevertheless here goes: stay the hell away from these, they are BAD!

Dan
Dan,
These boards were manufactured in 1987. I believe they are for a sergeant.

I have no precise idea... Could it be linked to Napoleon ?
Ch.
Christophe,
Good thinking, but no, it is 100% Soviet focused.
OK, I'll drop a few clues:
. It is an item that is used for something that most Eastern Europeans consider to be a sport
. It belonged to a prominent Soviet

May's silver American Eagle bullion total of 1,516,000 has been replaced by the numbers from the first week of June. The 425,000 figure is a respectable weekly number. Unfortunately, the Mint's silver blank suppliers cut by half the number they can supply weekly to the Mint. Sooner or later, this drop will show up in the numbers and it is probably likely that the June monthly total will be significantly fewer.
The Mint points out that so far this year, the 10.07 silver one-ounce bullion Eagle's struck already exceeds last year's total for the whole year , which was 9.03 million pieces.
So, what shortage are we talking about here

Gents,
I just won these medals in an auction. The North Korean one in the lower left hand corner I recognize but the rest are all a mistery to me. If you can identify them, and post a picture with the correct suspension piece, I would be very greatfull. An idea of value would also help. I am not asking this for resale purposes. Just so I know the value of what I bought. The lot averages out to about 10 euros each.
Regards,
Gordon
Gordon,
The one on the right is a fake of the Artillery Academy medal; the original has real beautiful glass enamels.
The 3 square suspensions are also current fakes; I do not know about the medals hanging from them though.

Nack,
Somehow, I had previously missed this thread. Having a close and careful look at your NKVD cap, I must say that I am far from enthused with it. It has all the trademarks of local workshop production. Compare with the one RussiaMilitaria has just posted, the differences are glaring.
Would this cap come from a "reputable dealer" located in NJ?

Great - thanks
The red banner is also included in the group so that also appears to tie out
Bob,
Please post some scans when you get them. I, for one, would love to have a look.

Ah, so AFTER the ribboned medal.
This is a heavy metal badge with good quality real enamel, so it looks earlier than that.
Guys,
I going from memory here, but this one is from 1958, and was awarded to Komsomol members only. The medal was an altogether different type of reward.
Rick, it is "Освоение" not "Освобождение", so no "liberation" here

I suspect he was something to do with music or the performing arts. Given his rank he would have been pretty senior in whatever military band he lead. Does anyone know the rank of the leader of the Red Army Band since that could be a useful benchmark ?
Paul,
There isn't one Red Army ensemble, but several, although that notion seems to be lost on most of us.
Most of the ensemble leaders tend to be at the Polkovnik (Colonel) level, and a few get promoted with time.

Nick,
I believe that you made a mistake here; your new example is, according to your excellent explanations, a type 3.1
