Ah . . . that is why we have seen it?...
If you compare carefully both orders, you will see some specific markers that exist on the real thing and are missing or differ on the fake one.
...Maybe the careful engraving of "FAKE" (somewhere, I have the best Russian equivalent, which I HAVE used) on the reverse would help out future generations? The word "Муляж" would do nicely the trick.

How many SN 7314 are there ?
Ch.
Christophe,
In short: too many
But one of them is the real one (hint: it is not the first one shown in this thread).

Hi,
Today I got from another forum member a Soviet Order of Friendship. I am pretty sure its fake and I got this as a fake but still, question remains, is it original or not, because old owner wasn't 100% sure.
If its fake then I am seriously worried, because it can fool lots of people!
Noor,
Here is the Order of Friendship SN 7314; This one is original

The first one should be 290 857 and the second one should be 262 294.
Thanks for any opinions.
Ostfront,
Personally, I read 290851 and 262234

Marc,
Alexei authenticated it as genuine.
Doc
Doc,
Good for you if that is so. I personally would not want this one in my collection, though.

...I also wonder what format the award paperwork would take.
Rick,
Soviet medals and orders awarded during the past several years are given with standard Russian Federation booklets. In it, the original Ukaz date and number are indicated to make it clear that it is a catch-up award.

Doc,
That is definitely not an original, sorry

...The ranking in Post # 1 above remains valid as of 17 July 2008. The distinct lack of Full Cavalier sets available for sale in the West continues...
Not many more available in the East either

Hi,
bought these medal with box also yesterday on a flea market.
Seems to be a Honoured machine builder medal of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (RSFSR).
Does anybody know something about the medal (how many were awarded, value?).
Is the box original to the medal. The box is made out of cheap blue plastic.
best regards and thanks
Andreas
Andreas,
This looks the way it should, and the box is also original. Congratulations, this is a nice find

Hi Alex,
Okay, I'm going to take a crack at this one. I'd actually found a story referring to this a while back and posted it :
http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=15021&hl=drink
It's a tradition whereby the recipient of an Order or medal would drop it into a glass of vodka, drink down the liquid until left holding the award in his or her teeth.
Hope it's what you're looking for.
Dan
Dan,
I think you got that one nailed, once more.
In russian, it is called "обмывать".

Hi all,
Okay... I'm going to go way out on a limb here and take a crack at this one. It fits the initials and seems to answer the question. So here's hoping.
The concept is called "Space Bridges"... the linking of faraway places via satellite technology. It was used as a show in the late 80's. The co-hosts were Vladimir Posner and Peter Jennings... hence VP and PJ.
Here is a link to the article I found on this:
http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html...754C0A961948260
A short bio of Posner:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vladimir_Posner
And a short one of Jennings:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Jennings
Again, everything seems to fit... no idea if it's the correct answer or not.
I don't really remember these shows although I very much remember Vladimir being on Phil Donahue's show tons of times and what impressed me was the fact that Vladimir speaks perfect English with a New York accent unlike all the other Soviet representatives I'd ever heard.
Anyhow... fingers crossed!
Dan
Dan,
Well done
Posner is something of a character, being born in Paris, living in the US until he was 18,then moving back to the USSR where he had not lived yet. That probably explains his NY accent
It looks like I just kept the seat warm for you in this case. So, you're up for the next question. Shoot!

Die truck in silver, the tiny M at the bottom indicates the Osaka Mint.
Gordon,
Do all Golden Kites have/should have that small "M" mintmark?

Hi Marc,
Some hints, maybe ?
Cheers.
Ch.
Riiiiiiiiight! And I thought it was a nearly obvious question
How about some initials? Let's say VP and PJ

That's odd. I have two Russian dictionaries. Both have pechnik-- one says "printer," the other "stove-maker." The one that says stove-maker has pechatnik as printer.
Rick,
The word "печник" indeed means "stove-maker", "stove-setter", or "stove-man"; "печатник" means "printer". So, one of your dictionaries is right (the other one, well, ).
The word for "stoker" or "boiler-man" is "истопник", "кочегар", or "котельный машинист".

Visiting the bank where my babies are safefully stored. REalized, hey this is a good moment to take a pic of the family! Mobile phone pic so low quality
First... my Mongolian Sukh Bataar's: 3 screwbacks, 4 pinbacks and then at the top the "thing" which isn't real
Second... main thrust of my collection of hero awards from small socialist countries:
- 2 Soyombo Hero of Labour from Mongolia (missing in pic, a 3rd "debated" soyombo)
- 2 Albanian Hero Stars (both cased; 1 attributed)
- 1 Albanian Hero of Socialist Labor (boxed with doc/name)
- 1 Cuban Hero of Socialist Labor
Impressive, Bob. Keep up the good work!!!

A little bravery medal group.
Bravery medal s/n: 275.195
Medal for the Defence of Stalingrad
Medal for the Victory over Germany
to
Vasilenko; Jakow, Sidorowitsch
Andreas,
He received a Military Merit (commonly called Combat Services ) medal, not a Bravery medal.

17. Guards Polkovnik (Colonel) I.P. Hmitiev
Is that a US Silver or Bronze Star he's wearing at the bottom?

Mark.
Why are we discussing this group in the research section.
This should be in the Soviet orders medals section
Kristof,
I was simply answering Miguel's questions about the authenticity of this group.
Under the pretext that this is the "Researched Awards & Groups" thread - and even though this group has NOT been researched - should we simply show anything and everything, including obviously fake items, and keep our foot in our mouth? I personally don't think so.
Now, I guess the thing to do would be to mover this thread to the "Fake" section.

I?ve see this group, looking for another thing...
What do you think??
Miguel
Miguel,
The pictures are not the best, but I can see quite a few problems already:
. ORS: later type, original SN erased and replaced
. OPW: fake pin, fake suspension, soldered ring, SN does not correspond to the type
. Booklet: I've got a funny feeling about it. I don't like the ink mostly

...If you don't mind, I propose to bend the rules a little bit for this one question, in order to try and attract new blood to the quizz: I propose that until Thursday 12/6 24:00 GMT, only those who have never participated to our quizz be allowed to answer it; from 13/6 at 00:01 GMT, it will be fair game for all...
Well, it looks like my proposal completely fell flat! Never mind
So, no one is inspired? This should be a rather easy question involving two celebrities.

Order of Red Banner - real?
in Russia: Soviet Orders, Medals & Decorations
Posted
UsAirForce,
Your ORB is genuine. It is a Type 3 (suspension, round) Variation 3 (shallow relief, straight MM).
