Let`s go on with Red Cross.

One of the earliest decorations was a Commemorative decoration of ?hist?? organisation in three classes.

On Dec., 8th 1918 the Central Organisation of Homefront, "Common Task" (?hist??"), was established to co-ordinate all the activities out in the rear to support the front. They made even the armoured cars.

The decoration established in 1920 and awarded in 1921.

Here is a I class decoration : a Gold Badge with White Background on the Blue Ribbon ( such exactly was the name of the decoration).

Only 16 I class ex. awarded incl. to Prime Minister, later President K. P?ts, to commander-in-chief general J.Laidoner.

On left- the first Red Cross medal. It was issued in 1920-25 in one class. After that the Red Cross decoration obtained the structure of an ordinary orden.

On the right- the III class of the 1925-1936 Red Cross decoration.

A total number of awardings with these two types was 507 ex.

A Gold Medal of the Order of Red Cross.

135 ex. awarded in 1936-1940.

Silver Medal of the Order of the Red Cross , cased.

112 ex. awarded in 1936-1940.

A Bronze medal of the Order of the Red Cross.

46 ex. awarded in 1936-1940.

A button-hole rosette of the Order of the Red Cross.

Finally a suspect half-size of the Cross of Liberty (28.5x23.5mm). I assume this is a post-war piece.

As regards the mini Cross of Liberty I class, I have similar II class mini which is post-war piece.

Hello Peter,

You have some fine medals in your collection.

The first one is 3 class Cross of Defence League (Home Guard was another organization). It was awarded ca 5000 ex. in 1930-1940. As much as I know I and II classes were never awarded in pre-WW II period.

Original case to the document of the Order of the Red Cross.

Document to the Order of the Red Cross 5th class. Signed by Prime minister K. Eenpalu and major-general J. Orasmaa.

Before 1936 (when the decoration was converted to the Governmental decoration) it was the Commemorative Decoration of the Estonian Red Cross.

This type of ribbon shows that this is II grade II step badge awarded 1926-1936 682 ex.

The style of the ribbon shows that this is a 1936-1940 issue.

692 ex. were awarded.

One of the most rare Estonian badges and probably of all pilot`s wings in the world. 17 men only graduated the Estonian Flight school in 1921. I know only two badges existing in collections. One is here.

Silver, gold, enamels. Multipiece construction. Screwback. Height 47 mm.

National Defence League- Merit badge of Jarva Territorial unit.

Silvered bronze, enamels. Height 43 mm. Screwback.

94 ex. awarded until 2005.

Very attractive... Eastern European Countries tend to have what I consider Russian style badges.

I think there were Imperial Russian influences in some of the Estonian badges of 1920s but not in modern ones.

Mostly the ethnic Estonian and Nordic symbols are in use as it`s proper to the Nordic state.
