Ahhh.... but Jerreeee mon Ami.... almost as good as Johnneeeee....
(Does Johnny Hallyday have one as well??)
He was made a Knight of the Légion d'Honneur in 1997. Considering how big he's become, he should get a promotion within the Order!

Well, if you dont understand the Jerry Lewis award... you dont understand the French.... :-)
J.L. has a status in France that few reach.
Best
Chris
Agree 100%... Lewis is a demi-God in France.

Heh... Politics have always been, and will always be politics...
But in all fairness, I agree, some late appointees have seriously devalued this and other awards. I've seen the same in the UK with the O.B.E., in Canada with the O.C., in Russia with the Order of St Andrew... I'm sure we could go through every country in the World and find purely politically motivated nominations. I find it sad for the really deserving people that others get it solely based on connections or fame rather than real work for the nation.

Frank - this could be for a Wartime occasion - however, I think it was meant for window display and very possibly the Coronation of King George 6th in 1937. The ones for street lamps etc. were usually larger and printed on cotton. The sentiments expressed would seem right for that period. Mervyn
That makes a lot of sense! Thanks!

I bought this a little while back at a local gun show. It is printed on silk (I think), is just over 14 inches high, 8 3/4 inches wide and hangs from a red string.
This is DEFINITELY going into one of my medal frames, but I'm really unsure as to its age... WW2? WW1? Earlier? I'd appreciate any help in narrowing down its age.

Have any Americans received this medal yet?
I looked but couldn't find any info or list about potential foreign recipients.

Thanks for this Frank.
Perhaps Canada should look at a similar medal to reward CF pers and civilians who deploy each year to such places as Manitoba, etc. during flood season...
Jean-Paul
I've seen members of my squadron receive provincial table medals with matching lapel pins from Saskatchewan and Manitoba for special services in assisting during floods and forest fires, but that's it. I very much doubt you'll see anything else.

(Einsatzmedaille Fluthilfe 2002) Awarded to members of the German armed forces, of foreign armed services, of civilian rescue forces and to foreign citizens who assisted with the flood disaster relief efforts in Germany in the summer of 2002. It was approved for wear by the Minister of Defence but was created by the Ministry of the Interior. The medal is awarded in the same class to all German soldiers regardless of rank. It is the only type of its kind in the German awards system. Some German federal states created their own flood medals for its citizens, but the Flood Service Medal 2002 is the only federally created flood relief decoration in Germany.

That's good news!
I'm so impressed with the attention to detail of the lion!
I doubt you'd see such quality on a modern piece.

Hi Frank
It's going to be a slow go, as it's all written in fraktur
I have 2 old German books like that... I can only translate so much per hour before my eyes burn...

Very nice!! I hope you'll keep a good record of the translation! And maybe share one day...

It's the first pre 1952 I see (for this grade)... So I'm unsure about the details of the enamel and lion.
Here's one just like yours but without the maker data on the reverse. (Makes you go "hmmmmmm...")
A switch on center medaillion or original?

You should tell the buyer to be a bit more patient... The volume of mail during the Holiday season slows down deliveries.

But look closer at the tiny track link and see that they have even been able to replicate the foundry casting serial number on the link.
Wow!
What's the scale? 1/35?

For somebody who's heart didn't seem to be in this project at its onset, you did a marvelous job! It really looks great! Looking forward to the full diorama with the Panther!

Major-General Alexander Alexandrov's contribution to Soviet military music was remarkable. He composed the music to the Soviet (now Russian) National Anthem and the music to "Sacred War" which is without a doubt the most iconic of Soviet WW2 songs.
Link to a video recreating the general's font line work with his musical ensemble. The actor actually looks like him! They are singing Sacred War.
N.B. If you see T-62s intermixed with the Tiger tanks... Er... Don't worry, propably an optical illusion...

Understood, and agreed... But call it what you will, the info I found on Saint-Denis clearly indicates multiple military and civilian transfers in and out over 4 years.

"Camp de rassemblement" it pretty much self explanatory, it was also called a "camp de transition", grosso modo, temporary. One can find many links on the web of civilians and soldiers spending from a few weeks to a few years there before being sent to another camp, even to death camps. My guess is the bearer of this badge was transferred somewhere else in 41 or early 42.

I don't think they have any military siginificance, just a part of the decorating pattern of the whole presentation
I agree with Veteran, just decoration.
The 2 top ones though should normally be reversed.
