I was offered a restauration Legion d'Honneur for purchase but the face of Henry IV is facing left vice right...  This caught me off guard and I passed...

Did I miss a good buy?  I simply couldn't find any reference to this version...  Any help would be appreciated.

I just rechecked, my bad...  He did not receive the Defense Medal.  He did not meet the criteria.

I think I can speak on most member's behalf...  No, they are not sought after.

The Russian Defense Ministry has authorized in excess of 350 new awards in the past 20 years.  It's honestly difficult to keep track, and trust me, I've spent a quite inordinate amount of time at it!  Out of those hundreds, a mere dozen are actual combat/operational awards.  The outstanding majority are mere service or efficiency awards of ever-increasing levels.  Many are destined for senior officials only...  

Interesting?  Fascinating actually!  Unfortunately, more often than not, on a more anthropological and political aspect rather than military.

The 3 grades.  Are they really for 15, 25 and 40 years?  If yes, what's the "spange" at the top for?

I couldn't agree more!  When I began collecting modern Russian medals I almost went nuts.  I can tell you I have a drawer full of worthless bogus, public, associative medals, even some from ministries that were awarded eventhough never approved by the ministers!  Each department having its own particular awards is also nonsensical for an Armed Force so large...  A medal for efficiency, OK...  But a diffrent one for tankers, engineers, radiomen, submariners, etc makes no sense.  I'd bet most Russian soldiers can't identify more than a minute fraction of the medals available for their service.

This is the proper ribbon for this award.
