Here's a question #58 for you (if I may)...
-I emerged from WW2 as a highly decorated and severely wounded artillery officer.
-Post war I was given the command of the development and deployment of the most despicable of weapons.
-Oddly enough, I received my highest decorations near the end of my career... For saving lives!
WHO AM I?

Stalin portrayed as a demi god... Zhukov portrayed as a schmuck... Stalin said he would've made the movie exactly like that.
Movie, The Fall of Berlin.

My guess would be a pin of the Société d'Entraide aux Membres de la Légion d'Honneur, but it's only a guess, I've never seen this particular design.

Due to the unofficial nature of the award and not knowing which organization it came from... I can't tell you anything positive. Some similar medals are regularly given out for a simple $5 donation to naval veterans' organizations...

Oh brother... (Fetching the paper again...)

This is unfortunately an unofficial (civilian/veteran/souvenir) medal... I could tell you from which civilian/veteran's organization it came from with a good close up of the stamp.

IMHO, the US equivalent would either be a bronze star or a commendation with "V" device.

Any suggestion as to where I might find some? Web sites? Etc...

I smile just looking at it!! Fantastic job!
If I may though... Don't forget the yellow edge stripes on his OMM ribbon.

Have you posted this in our firearms section? (lower in the forum) I think you might have a better chance at an educated answer where our subject matter experts will see it.
Cheers!

It's a religious medal from the city of Nantes, the 2 fellows on it are saint Rogatien and saint Donatien.
The inscription "plutôt mourir que trahir" translates into "death rather than betrayal". The medal isn't worth much to be honest with you...

Never mind... I found my answer... DUH!

It looks like a 16mm miniature.
But the ribbon has not the German width. It looks wider than the 15mm or 10mm ribbon for a mini medal bar.
Because of the mentioned French web side, probably for french people.
They are in fact both full size medals. And as you state, since they're made in France... Most probably for French recipients.

One more question but this time dealing with the palm on the war time issue decoration...
I recently purchased this one (Leopold III 1934 - 1952) but the palm doesn't have the proper royal cypher. Is this a variant or is this palm completely wrong for this cross?

ANY HELP WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!! Proper credit will be given for any pic used.

THE SOVIET QUIZ - 2011 - QUIZ CLOSED
in Russia: Soviet: Other Militaria
Posted · Edited by TacHel
The movie is worth seeing as an oddity...
-The portrayals of Roosevelt and especially of Churchill are downright obsene!
-To see Hitler gloating at columns of rebellious Soviet slave labour from a Reichchancellerie window is downright ludicrous.
-The actor portraying Hitler is so incredibly good he gave me the creeps!
