Rick, my "23" has solid inner corners all around, so I can think of no reason for the apparently drilled holes on your example. But it's interesting!

Are you sure that the slots are there intentionally and aren't just a result of sloppy soldering?

Well, here's the front of one....

Here's one signed by Wilhelm Keitel's brother Bodewin.

Here's another "L/52" pinback in the Imperial (or, Shinkel) shape.

Gordon,
I think he means EKs made in the Imperial shape. Most 1914s I've seen made in the TR era are shaped like 1939 EKs.

I don't have one, nor have I ever seen one.

This Imperial style screwback EK is also marked "L/52" on the back!

Do the people on the German Forum have a reason why they don't like it? Or do they just not like it?

I'm wondering if this "Copy of the Week" from Detlev (who, incidentally, sold me a Schinkel-form EK 1 absolutely identical to Micha's) is causing some of the apparent confusion? This Copy is NOT like my cross or Micha's. The numbers are different, as is the beading, and the hinge.

Reverse.

That second type looks real familiar, Gordon!
